Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Concert Program" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a printed concert program handed out at the door. Ivory paper, a thin plum double border, classic Caslon type set centered, one deep plum ink for the works and muted gold reserved for the encore.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FAF6EE (ivory).
- Plum: #4B2545 for the border, bars, value labels, eyebrow and the intermission text.
- Gold: #B3924E for the special item (the encore) and small ornaments only.
- Main text: #2B2228. Secondary text: #7A6E72.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Libre Caslon Display for the title: 34px, #2B2228, centered, sentence case, stating the finding.
- Libre Caslon Text for everything else: eyebrow 12px uppercase with 3.5px letter-spacing in plum; subtitle italic 15px #7A6E72; item names 16px #2B2228; the detail line under each name italic 12.5px #7A6E72 (gold for the special item); value labels 700 15px in the bar color; the intermission line italic 15px plum; the total 14px; source italic 11.5px.

Layout:
- A double border: a 1.2px plum rectangle inset 16px and a 0.5px plum rectangle inset 22px.
- Centered header: eyebrow at y 60, title at y 104, subtitle at y 132.
- Rows in running order on a 46px pitch starting near y 184. Names right-aligned at x 384, detail line 18px below each name, bars start at x 404.
- Split the list into its two halves with a centered ornamental rule: two 0.8px plum lines (about 130px long each) with small gold diamonds (8px) at both ends, and the italic label between ("Intermission, 20 minutes").
- The special final item gets 6px of extra space above it.
- Foot: a short 0.8px gold rule centered at y 510, a centered total line ("Total running time 2 hours 5 minutes, including intermission") at y 536, and the source centered at y 560.

Axes and grid:
- No axis labels: each bar carries its value. A 0.8px plum baseline at the bar start and faint 0.8px plum guides at 18% opacity, dotted (1 on, 3 off), at round values (10, 20, 30). Break the baseline and guides where the intermission rule crosses them.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal square-cornered bars 18px tall in solid plum, the special item in gold, in the original order (never sorted). Value label 10px past the bar end, "36 min" style.
- Line chart: a 2px plum line with small plum dots (r 4) and an ivory 1.5px ring, the last or special point in gold, labels in Libre Caslon Text 700 15px. Mark a break between two halves of the series with the same ornamental intermission rule drawn vertically as a gap with the italic label above.

Avoid: sans-serif type, gradients, shadows, rounded bars, heavy gridlines, sorting by value, and using gold for more than the special item and ornaments.

When you're done, render the chart and check that everything is centered on the page axis, the halves are separated by the ornament, the border is evenly inset, and the total adds up to the sum of the items plus the intermission.
