Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Commute Model" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: output from a city transport model on an operations screen. Near-black map background with a ghost of the street network, three crisp mode colors, monospaced scenario figures.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0E1012. Street network: #1F2327 lines (1.1px for streets, 3px for two arterials), covered by a rounded (8px) veil of #0E1012 at 72% opacity from 40,36 to 920,566 so the streets stay faint behind the data.
- Modes: car #F2A93B (amber), bus #2FB8AC (teal), bike #B6E04A (lime).
- Primary text: #E8EAEC. Secondary text: #8B9299. Gridlines: #2A2F34. Panel baselines: #8B9299.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- DM Sans: title 700 26px, -0.3px letter-spacing, stating the finding; subtitle 400 14px #8B9299 naming measure and unit and explaining the band; panel names 700 14px uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing; source 12px.
- DM Mono for all figures: panel ranges ("21-46 min" style, 12px in the mode color, right-aligned in the panel header), y tick labels 12px, time labels 11px, pill times 500 11px, peak values 11px #E8EAEC.

Layout:
- Title at x 64, y 76; subtitle at y 102.
- Small multiples in a 3 by 1 row from x 104 to 896, 28px gutters, panels 320px tall (y 150 to 470). Each panel header 17px above the plot: a 4 x 16 mode-color tab, the mode name, and the range at right.
- One shared y-axis on the left edge only (labels right-aligned 12px left of the first panel, a small "min" unit at the top). Time labels at 06:00, 12:00, 18:00 under every panel.
- Source line at the bottom left.

Axes and grid:
- Same y-scale in every panel. 1px #2A2F34 gridlines every 10 units across each panel, a 1px #8B9299 baseline, no vertical gridlines.

Marks:
- Line chart: a thin 2px smooth monotone line per panel in the mode color, with a shaded band for the modeled range (the mode color at 16% opacity). Tag the morning and evening peaks: a small open dot (r 3.2, background fill, 1.6px mode-color stroke) on the line, a 1px tick up from the top of the band, a 54 x 18 fully rounded pill with a 1px mode-color outline and the time inside, and the peak value in mono just above the pill.
- Bar chart: one panel per series with thin vertical bars (about 60% of the slot, 2px top radius) in the mode color at 85% opacity, the modeled range shown as a 1.5px mode-color whisker with 6px caps over each bar, and the same time pills over the two tallest bars.

Avoid: a legend (the panel headers are the legend), glows, thick lines, bright street lines that compete with the data, and a y-axis repeated on every panel.

When you're done, render the chart and check that all panels share one y-scale, the pills and peak values sit above the band without touching the panel header, the street network stays barely visible, and the number in the title matches the data at that hour.
