Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Color Forecast" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a design trend report on deep charcoal. The data marks are drawn in the colors being tracked, like paint swatches come to life, and one big swatch block crowns the rising star.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1C1C1E.
- Series, in this order: #D46A4C (terracotta), #5FA3A0 (dusty teal), #F0D27A (butter yellow), #B574A6 (plum). The highlighted series (the riser or the one the title is about) takes the dusty teal.
- Text #F2EFEA; secondary text and ticks #8E8E93; gridlines #2E2E31; zero line and tick marks #48484C; swatch caption panel #F2EFEA with #1C1C1E and #5B5B60 text.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Syne for the title (700, 32px, two lines: the first in #F2EFEA, the second in the highlight color, together stating the finding) and the swatch name (700, 17px) and swatch number (800, 26px).
- Karla for everything else: eyebrow 12px 700 uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing in #8E8E93; "COLOR OF THE YEAR" 11px 700 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in #F2EFEA; subtitle 15px; tick labels 12px (year labels 13px 700); end labels 13px 700 in the series color with the last value 12px 500 #8E8E93 under it; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px left margin. Eyebrow baseline 60, title lines at 100 and 138, subtitle at 170.
- Swatch block top right: x 718, y 58, 186 x 138, 3px radius, filled with the highlight color; its bottom 44px is a #F2EFEA caption panel with the color's name and a small code line ("TW 5FA3A0 / dusty teal"). The latest value sits large at the block's top right with a small caption under it. "COLOR OF THE YEAR" sits 12px above the block.
- Plot from x 88 to 776, y 234 to 508; about 120px on the right for end labels. Source at baseline 574.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only, 1px #2E2E31, at 0, 25, 50, 75, 100; the zero line #48484C. Y labels right-aligned 14px left of the plot.
- Year ticks: 6px #48484C ticks under the baseline at each January with the year left-aligned beside it, and "Dec" right-aligned at the end.

Marks:
- Line chart: smooth monotone curves with round caps and joins, 4.5px wide, the highlighted series 6px and drawn last on top. No point markers. Direct end labels in each series color, nudged at least 34px apart vertically.
- Bar chart: thick bars in the series colors with 3px top radius and no outline; grouped bars keep the series order; the highlighted series' bars are the only ones at full opacity if the others need to recede (use 70% opacity for the rest). Value labels 12px Karla 700 above bars in the bar's color.

Avoid: a legend box (label ends directly), thin hairline strokes for data, gradients or glows, any color not listed, and a swatch block that overlaps the plot.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the swatch block and title do not collide, end labels are legible and separated, the headline's growth claim is computed from the data, and each line is clearly its own color on the charcoal.
