Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Cohort Stacks" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an accelerator's annual demo-day report on a big dark screen. Bold, upbeat and well organized: deep navy, four saturated stage colors, chunky year numerals and one thin gold rule.

Colors (use these exact values), stacked bottom to top in this order:
- #8587FF (indigo), #2EC4B6 (teal), #FF7F6B (coral), #F4C45A (gold).
- Background: #0E1733 (deep navy). Primary text: #FFFFFF. Secondary text and axis labels: #95A0C2. Gridlines: #1E2A4D. Source: #6C7699.
- The gold #F4C45A also colors the eyebrow and the 2px divider rule under the title block.

Typography (Google Fonts): Bricolage Grotesque throughout.
- Headline 36px 800, -0.8px letter-spacing, white, stating the headline numbers. Eyebrow 11.5px 600 uppercase with 2.2px letter-spacing in gold. Subtitle 15px 400 #95A0C2.
- Legend 13px 600 white. Segment values 12.5px 600 in #0E1733 (navy on the color). Totals 17px 700 white. Category numerals under each column 20px 800 white, -0.3px letter-spacing. Axis labels 12px. Source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow, headline, subtitle, then a full-width 2px gold rule at about y 150 dividing the title block from the plot. A one-line legend of 12px rounded (3px) swatches just below the rule.
- Plot from x 96 to 904, baseline at y 510; category numerals 30px below the baseline.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #1E2A4D horizontal gridlines every 10 units with 12px #95A0C2 labels right-aligned left of the plot; a 1px #95A0C2 baseline. No y-axis line, no zero label.

Marks:
- Bar chart: stacked columns 58px wide (about 58% of the band). Segments are square except the top segment, which gets 6px rounded top corners only. A 1.5px navy gap between segments. Segment values centered inside when the segment is at least 26px tall; the column total above each stack 10px up.
- Line chart: a stacked area in the same four colors bottom to top at 90% opacity, separated by 1.5px navy lines, with totals labeled above each period and the same heavy numerals on the x axis.

Avoid: rounding every segment, gradients, glows, pastel tints of the four colors, white segment labels on the light gold and teal, and a legend that reorders the stack.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each total equals the sum of its segments, the stack order matches the legend order, only the top segment is rounded, and small segments drop their inner label instead of overflowing.
