Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Cohort Lines" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a dark product analytics view at the end of a retention review. Many quiet teal curves read as one body of evidence, and a single warm coral line tells you which cohort to learn from.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Canvas: #12171F, with a panel inset 20px on every side filled #171E28, 14px radius and a 1px #232C38 border. Gridlines #1E2631; baseline and dividers #232C38.
- Ink: #E6EDF3. Secondary text: #8B98A8. Axis labels and notes: #5D6A7A.
- Sequential cohort ramp by age, interpolated in RGB from #1F4F55 (oldest, dim teal) to #58E0D0 (newest, bright aqua). The eyebrow is #58E0D0.
- Highlighted cohort: #FF8A6B (coral), also used for its key tick, chip border (55% opacity) and chip value. Chip fill #241A1A. Tooltip fill #0E131A.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- DM Sans for words: title 23px 600, -0.4px letter-spacing, #E6EDF3, stating the finding; subtitle 14px #8B98A8 with measure and unit; key title 13px 600; tooltip title 13px 600; tooltip labels 12px #8B98A8.
- DM Mono for every number and code-like label: eyebrow 11.5px 500 uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing; axis labels 11.5px ("25%", "W4"); key month labels 11.5px; tooltip values 12px #E6EDF3; chip caption 9.5px 500 uppercase with 0.8px letter-spacing; chip value 14px 500.

Layout:
- Eyebrow, title and subtitle at the top left of the panel with 28px padding.
- The plot takes the left three quarters. A 1px #232C38 vertical divider separates a right-hand column holding the cohort key: a 10px wide, fully rounded vertical gradient bar from #1F4F55 at the top (oldest) to #58E0D0 at the bottom (newest), 8px ticks with month labels for about five cohorts, the highlighted cohort's tick and label in coral with a 16 x 6 coral lozenge laid across the bar at its position, and "Dim = older" / "Bright = newer" notes beneath.
- Source line at the bottom left of the panel, 11.5px #5D6A7A, noting which cohorts are still maturing.

Axes and grid:
- Y from 0% to 100% with 1px #1E2631 gridlines every 25%, labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot. No axis lines except a #232C38 baseline.
- X is time since the cohort started ("W0" to "W12"), labelled every second step, with a small right-aligned axis title under the labels.

Marks:
- Line chart: one monotone-smoothed 1.5px line per cohort with round caps, colored by age along the ramp and drawn oldest first so newer, brighter lines sit on top. Immature cohorts simply stop at their last observed point. The best cohort is drawn last at 3px in #FF8A6B, with a 4.5px coral dot and a 9px coral halo at 20% opacity on its final point.
- Bar chart: grouped vertical bars of retention at a few checkpoints (for example weeks 1, 4, 8 and 12) with one slim bar per cohort colored along the same ramp, 2px top radius, the best cohort's bars in #FF8A6B; keep the gradient key and the chip.
- Hover crosshair at one checkpoint: a 36px column of white at 2.5% opacity behind the lines, a 1px dashed (3 on 3) #8B98A8 line at 60% opacity, a small dot in each cohort's color where every line crosses it (4.5px coral for the highlight, 2.4px otherwise, ringed in the panel color), and a tooltip card (176px wide, 10px radius, 1px #232C38 border, 0 8px 20px black shadow at 45%) listing the highlighted cohort and the median cohort at that step.

Labels and annotation:
- A "WEEK 12 RETENTION" chip (150 x 40, 10px radius) just above the highlighted line's last point, with the coral value and a muted comparison to the oldest cohort at the same week ("vs 13.0% Oct").

Avoid: a categorical legend with twelve swatches, rainbow palettes, thick lines for ordinary cohorts, filled areas, and any second accent color besides coral.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the highlighted cohort really is the best at the chip's checkpoint, the ramp runs from dim for old to bright for new in both the lines and the key, the tooltip and chip values match the data, and the oldest lines stay just visible on the dark panel.
