Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Coffee Tin" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the lithographed lid of a 1920s coffee tin. Rich oxblood enamel, an ornate gold border with corner medallions, a curling ribbon banner, metallic gold bars with embossed numbers and a row of exposition medals.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Enamel: #2A0F12 (oxblood) for the canvas, with a soft radial lift to #3B171B in the center.
- Tin gold: #D4A94F for border lines, the ribbon, medallions, baseline and small caps labels.
- Deep gold: #9C7432 for ribbon tails, bar shading and the dotted inner border.
- Cream: #F3E6C4 for the subtitle, the highlighted mark and award names.
- Muted text: #C9A98A. Ribbon fold shadows: #5E421A. Medal ribbons: #8C2A2A.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Rye for the title only (26px oxblood, centered on the ribbon, short and stating the finding).
- Old Standard TT for everything else: subtitle 16px italic cream, centered; embossed values 16px 700; category labels 14px #C9A98A (700 cream for the highlighted one); small caps labels 11 to 12px 700 with 2 to 3px letter-spacing in gold; award places 13px italic cream; source 11px italic.

Layout:
- Border: a 3px gold rectangle inset 16px, a 1px gold rectangle inset 25px, and a 0.8px deep-gold dotted rectangle inset 30px (1 on 4 off, round caps). At each corner a medallion of radius 17 (oxblood fill, 2.5px gold ring, 0.8px inner ring at 12, a 16-point gold rosette and a small oxblood center).
- Ribbon banner centered at the top, 460px wide and 48px tall, bowed gently with quadratic curves (edges sag about 10px at the middle), filled with a gold gradient (#E6C170 to #D4A94F), with thin oxblood inner lines 5px in from each edge. Deep gold tails 74px long with V notches drop 16px behind each end, with small #5E421A fold triangles.
- Subtitle at y 134. Plot from x 72 to 888, baseline y 432.
- Medal row: a thin deep-gold rule broken in the center for "AWARDS", then three medals evenly spaced, each a radius 19 disc with a radial gold gradient (#F2D68C to #9C7432), a rosette, two red V-cut ribbons hanging below, and two lines of text beside it (award in gold caps, fair and year in cream italic). Source centered at y 562.

Axes and grid:
- No y axis and no gridlines; every mark is labeled. A 1.5px gold baseline; category labels 22px below.

Marks:
- Bar chart: square-cornered bars about 60% of the band (44px at 11 bars), filled with a horizontal metallic gradient (#9C7432 to #EBCB7C at 45% to #9C7432), with a 0.8px darker inset line 3px inside. The highlighted (record) bar uses a cream gradient (#D8C79F to #FFF6DE to #D8C79F) with a "RECORD" caption above. Values sit inside the top of each bar, embossed: oxblood 16px 700 text over a #FFF3D2 copy at 70% opacity offset 0.8px down and right.
- Line chart: a 3.5px tin gold line over a faint gold area (12% opacity), with round markers of radius 9 filled with the metallic gradient and a 1px deep gold ring, embossed values above each marker; the record point in cream with its caption.

Avoid: flat yellow, bright red data marks, sans-serif type, modern rounded corners, and letting the ribbon tails or medallions crowd the title.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the title fits well inside the ribbon, the embossed numbers read crisply at thumbnail size, the corner medallions sit exactly on the border corners, and the medal text does not run into the next medal.
