Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Cocoa Volume" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a fine chocolatier's trading ledger. Dark chocolate ground, a warm ramp from cocoa to cream, wide-spaced geometric capitals and a thin gold hairline frame. Elegant, warm and orderly.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Canvas: #2A1A12 (dark chocolate).
- Series ramp, first to last: #7E4B2E (cocoa), #B97432 (caramel), #E4B45A (butterscotch), #FAF1DE (cream). Stack them in this order from the baseline up.
- Gold: #C9A45C for the hairline frame, the eyebrow, the legend header and the peak caret.
- Title and emphasis text: #FAF1DE. Secondary text: #B89C82. Gridlines: #3D2A1F.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Josefin Sans in uppercase for the eyebrow (600, 12px, 4px letter-spacing, gold), the title (700, 32px, 4.5px letter-spacing, cream, stating the finding), small caps labels such as weekday markers (600, 9.5px, 1.6px letter-spacing) and the source (600, 11px, 2.4px letter-spacing).
- Josefin Slab for the subtitle (500, 17px, #B89C82), legend entries (600, 15px, 1px letter-spacing, cream), axis labels (500, 14px), the peak callout (700, 17px cream, with a 13.5px note beneath) and the footer note (500, 14px).

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow y 58, title y 100, subtitle y 130.
- Legend row at y 172: "EXPIRY" (or the series group name) in gold caps, then 10 x 14px swatches with short codes (SEP 26, DEC 26, ...) about 108px apart.
- Plot from x 96 to x 884, y 214 to 504, enclosed by a 0.8px gold hairline rectangle inset 16px outside the plot on the left, right and top, closed by the baseline.
- Axis labels 26px left of the plot. Footer note left and source right at y 580, no rule.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only, 1px #3D2A1F, every 20 units, running out to the frame. No y-axis line.
- Category labels only on a regular cadence (for daily data, Mondays with a small "MON" marker beneath) plus the peak category in bold cream.

Marks:
- Bar chart: narrow stacked bars, 17px wide in a roughly 39px slot, square cornered, with a 1.5px canvas-colored seam between segments. Mark the tallest total with a gold caret (an open V, 14px wide, 2px stroke, round joins) 10px above the bar and the callout text to its right.
- Line chart: one 2.5px line per series using the same ramp (cocoa lowest, cream highest), smooth monotone curves, a 12% opacity fill under the top series in its own color, the peak point marked with the gold caret and callout, and the series codes as direct end labels in Josefin Slab.

Avoid: rounded corners, glows, cool colors, bold gold fills (gold is only for hairlines, the caret and small caps), and wide bars that close the gaps.

When you're done, render the chart and check that adjacent ramp colors are distinguishable, the frame is a hairline rather than a border, and the caret sits on the true maximum.
