Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Clearance Rate" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a table page from a city's statistical abstract. Scholarly and exact: warm beige paper, ruled rows, a serif headline, numbers in columns, and small bar graphics living inside the table.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F7F4EE. Alternate row tint: #EFEAE1 at 70%. Row rules: #E2DCD0. Heavy rules: #1C1917.
- Reported (the whole): #D8D3C8. Cleared (the part): #334155 slate.
- Rust accent #9A3412 for the table number eyebrow, the five-year-average diamonds and any rate below its average. Rates at or above average are slate.
- Ink: #1C1917. Secondary text: #6B645A.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Lora 600 for the title (29px, sentence case, stating the overall rate); Lora 700 18px for the rate column with lining figures; Lora italic 12.5px for the running footer ("Statistical Abstract 2025").
- Source Sans 3 for everything else: eyebrow 11.5px 600 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing in rust ("TABLE 4.2 · ..."); subtitle 14.5px gray; column heads 12.5px 700; row labels 15px; count columns 14.5px gray, right aligned; source note 12px italic.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow y 48, title y 86, subtitle y 112.
- A 1.4px ink rule above the column heads and a 0.8px ink rule below them; rows about 43px tall with 1px rules and alternate tinted rows; a 1.4px ink rule above a bold "All categories" total row.
- Columns: label (x 56), bar zone (x 236 to 690), Reported (right edge x 758), Cleared (x 826), Rate (x 904). The legend sits in the bar zone's column head.
- Scale tick values (0, 1,000, 2,000, 3,000) in 11.5px gray on the total row under the bar zone, with dotted 2-3 vertical guides through the rows.

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines; only the dotted vertical guides in #E2DCD0. Everything else is table rules.

Marks:
- Bar chart: square-cornered horizontal bars. Reported as a 20px #D8D3C8 bar; cleared as a 10px #334155 bar centered inside it from the same origin. The five-year-average benchmark as an open diamond (12px wide, 1.6px rust stroke, translucent page fill) at the position the cleared bar would reach at the average rate. Sort rows by rate, highest first.
- Line chart: a 2px slate line with small square slate markers for the part, a thicker 6px #D8D3C8 line behind it for the whole, rust open diamonds for benchmarks, and the latest value of each series repeated in the right-hand columns.

Avoid: rounded bars, gradients, shadows, colored backgrounds beyond the tint, and a separate legend box.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each rate equals cleared divided by reported, the count of rust (below-average) rates matches the subtitle, the totals are the sum of the rows, and no tick label collides with the total counts.
