Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Check Ledger" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a personal bank check filled in on a typewriter. Pale blue safety paper with fine wavy lines, navy ink, tidy monospaced amounts, a memo field, a signature and the machine-readable number line along the bottom edge. Orderly and domestic.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Paper: #DCE8F2, with a diagonal lift to #E4EEF6 in the top-left corner.
- Safety waves: #BFD3E6 (fine) plus white at 55% opacity (broad).
- Navy for the title, bars, amounts, filled-in fields and signature: #1F3A5F.
- Printed gray for labels, field captions, rules under fields and small print: #33383D. MICR digits: #1A1C1E.
- Ledger rules under each row: #8FA6BE.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Courier Prime for the check's text: payer name 15px 700 uppercase with 1px letter-spacing; address 12.5px; check number 15px 700; field captions ("DATE", "MEMO") 10.5px uppercase with 1px letter-spacing; title 24px 700 navy, stating the finding; subtitle 14px gray with measure, unit and period; category labels 15px 400 gray; amounts 15px 700 navy written as full currency with cents ($1,850.00); total 16px 700; the amount in words 11px between double asterisks; source 11px.
- IBM Plex Mono 500 at 17px with 2.5px letter-spacing for the MICR number line, and Plex Mono 400 at 7.5px with 1.5px letter-spacing for "AUTHORIZED SIGNATURE".

Layout:
- A 1px navy check edge at 55% opacity, inset 16px with 3px corner radius. 56px content margins.
- Header row: payer name and address at the top left; check number right-aligned at the top right with a "DATE" caption and the date on a 0.8px underline beneath it.
- Title at y 118, subtitle at y 142, then the rows.
- Below the rows, a TOTAL line: "TOTAL" at the left, the amount in words right-aligned before a white (55% opacity) amount box with a 0.9px gray border holding the total.
- Near the bottom: a MEMO field at the left (caption plus a 0.8px underline with the note typed on it) and a signature line at the right (a flowing 1.5px navy scribble over a 0.8px line, "AUTHORIZED SIGNATURE" right-aligned under it). The source note sits under the memo.
- The MICR line 32px above the bottom edge: routing number framed by transit symbols, the account number followed by an on-us symbol, then the check number. Draw the symbols as small solid blocks (a 2.6 x 13 bar plus two 4.6px squares for transit; two short bars and a small block for on-us) rather than relying on special glyphs.

Axes and grid:
- No axes, ticks or gridlines. Every row carries its own amount. Each row sits on a full-width 0.7px #8FA6BE ruled line 7.5px below the bar, like a ledger page.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal bars, solid #1F3A5F, square ends, 14px tall on a 29px row pitch, starting at a common left edge after the category labels, sorted largest first. The amount is typed 10px past the end of each bar.
- Line chart: a 2px #1F3A5F line with straight segments over the same ruled lines (use them as horizontal gridlines at round values), square 5px navy markers at each point and the amount typed above each marker in Courier Prime 700; the latest point also gets the boxed amount treatment in the TOTAL line.

Texture:
- Safety pattern over the whole canvas: 120 fine horizontal sine lines 5px apart (0.55px #BFD3E6, amplitude 2.2px, wavelength about 88px, each phase-shifted from the last), crossed by 40 broad waves 15px apart (0.8px white at 55%, amplitude 6px, wavelength about 300px).

Avoid: proportional fonts, gradients on bars, rounded bars, colors other than navy for data, gridlines or axes, and letting the safety waves get dark enough to fight the text.

When you're done, render the chart and check that amounts are aligned to their bar ends without touching the next column, the total equals the sum of the rows, the words match the number, and the MICR symbols read as symbols at thumbnail size.
