Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Chalkboard" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a science lesson on a classroom chalkboard. Dark green slate, soft eraser smudges, and everything drawn in grainy chalk with pastel accents.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Slate: #1E2A23, inside an 18px wooden frame (vertical gradient #8A5E36 to #6E4726 to #553519, with thin wavy grain lines in #3E2610 at 45%) and a 30px chalk tray along the bottom with a small chalk stick and an eraser.
- Chalk White: #F2F0E6 for the title, axes, tick labels and subtitle (subtitle at 85% opacity, source at 70%).
- Yellow: #F4D35E for reference lines and the key annotation.
- Pink: #F59AB8 and Blue: #6FB8F2 for the two data series. Extra series, if needed: Chalk White, then Yellow.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Title: Cabin Sketch 700, 40px, Chalk White, underlined with a hand-drawn 3.5px chalk stroke across its full width. Key annotation value: Cabin Sketch 700, 26px, Yellow.
- Everything else: Schoolbell. Subtitle 21px, tick labels 20px, direct series labels 24px in the series color, source line 17px.

Chalk texture (this is what sells the style):
- Put all chalk work in one group with a filter: mask it with fine noise (fractalNoise, baseFrequency 0.85, 2 octaves, alpha 3*a - 0.62) composited "in", roughen the edges with feDisplacementMap (fractalNoise 0.35, scale 2.2), then blur 0.35px.
- Board surface: a faint speckle of fine noise over the slate at 35%, long horizontal eraser smears (fractalNoise 0.003 by 0.022, pale chalk color, blurred 2px, 30% opacity), and a few large soft radial dust clouds (Chalk White at 9% fading to 0).

Axes and grid:
- No gridlines. An L-shaped 3px chalk axis with a slight hand jitter, 14px tick strokes and degree or unit suffixes on the labels. Put the x unit ("min") just past the last tick label.

Marks:
- Line chart: 5px chalk lines with round caps, drawn from many small segments with about 1px of vertical jitter so they look hand-drawn, with 5.5px filled chalk dots at regular intervals. Label each line directly at its end in its color.
- Bar chart: bars as 3px chalk outlines filled with loose diagonal chalk hatching (3px strokes, 8px apart) in the series color, value written above in Schoolbell.
- Reference line: a Yellow dashed (14/10) 2.5px chalk line with a short Yellow label above its right end.
- Key annotation: circle the two points that matter with 11px Yellow chalk rings, drop dashed guides from them, join them with a double-headed Yellow chalk arrow in empty space, and write the difference ("+10 min") in Cabin Sketch next to it.

Avoid: clean vector strokes, pure black or pure white, saturated neon colors, glows, drop shadows, and gridlines.

When you're done, render the chart and zoom in: every stroke and letter should show chalk grain, the pastel series must still be told apart by their direct labels, the annotation arrow must not cross a data line, and nothing should touch the wooden frame.
