Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Cell Balance" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a battery-management diagnostics panel. Pale, quiet and engineered: dozens of near-identical gray marks so the two outliers jump out in blue and red.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #F3F4F5 (pale gray). Alternating group bands: #E8EAEC. Readout card: #FFFFFF with a 1px #DADDE1 border and 6px radius.
- Ordinary bars: #A3ACB6 (cool gray). The minimum item: #1F6FEB (blue). The maximum item: #D93F3F (red). Nothing else is colored.
- Ink and the zero line: #1D232A. Secondary text: #626A73. Dotted gridlines: #DADDE1.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- DM Sans: title 700, 27px, -0.5px letter-spacing, #1D232A, stating the finding; subtitle 400, 15px, #626A73; small caps labels 700, 9.5 to 10px, 1 to 1.2px letter-spacing, uppercase; footnotes 12px.
- DM Mono for every number: eyebrow 500, 11px, 1.4px letter-spacing, uppercase, #626A73; axis labels 11px; group labels 10px; outlier callouts 500, 12px in the outlier's color; readout value 500, 34px with a 16px unit suffix in #626A73.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow at y 58, title at y 96, subtitle at y 122.
- A readout card at the top right (x 716 to 904, y 34 to 132): label "SPREAD, MAX - MIN", the big value, then an 8px red square with the max value and an 8px blue square with the min value.
- Plot from x 104 to 904, y 176 to 496, with every other group of 8 items shaded #E8EAEC and group ranges ("1-8", "9-16" ...) centered below.

Axes and grid:
- Bars never float on a truncated axis. When all values sit in a narrow band (for example 3.31 to 3.35 V), plot each item's deviation from the average instead, so the zero line is the average and every bar starts at it.
- Dotted 1px #DADDE1 gridlines (2 on, 3 off) at +/-10 and +/-20 units, labeled with a sign ("+20", "-10") and the unit "mV" above the axis. The zero line is a solid 1px #1D232A rule labeled "avg".
- A footnote states the absolute average ("Zero line = pack average, 3.3306 V").

Marks:
- Bar chart: very narrow square bars (about 62% of an 8px slot), growing up or down from the zero line, all #A3ACB6 except the min in #1F6FEB and the max in #D93F3F. Each outlier gets a 1px diagonal leader in its color to a mono label such as "CELL 57 -18.6 mV".
- Line chart: a 1.5px #A3ACB6 line with small 2.5px gray dots per item, the zero line as above, and the min and max points enlarged (r 5) in blue and red with the same leader labels. Keep the group bands.

Avoid: rainbow or sequential coloring of ordinary bars, value labels on every bar, rounded bars, shadows, and y axes that start anywhere other than the reference line for bars.

When you're done, render the chart and check that only two marks are colored, the spread in the card equals max minus min, the title's figure matches the min cell's deviation, and the group labels line up with the bands.
