Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Catalog Spread" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a page from a printed furniture catalog. Warm white paper, one oak-brown ink for the data, calm serif headline, generous margins and the quiet order of a product spread.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FBF9F5 (warm white) for the whole canvas.
- Data and accents: #8C6239 (oak brown). The only data color.
- Ink for title, values and rules: #2B2520. Secondary text: #7D7266. Gridlines and hairlines: #E4DCD0.
- Sidebar panel: #F2ECE3. Upholstery tone in the silhouettes: #CDB99C.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Playfair Display 700 for the title (33px, #2B2520, sentence case, stating the finding).
- Josefin Sans for everything else: running head 12px 600 uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing (left in oak, right in #7D7266 at 400); subtitle 16px #7D7266 with measure, unit and period; axis labels 12.5px #7D7266; season labels 11.5px 600 with 1.4px letter-spacing; year labels 13px #2B2520; value labels 14px 700 #2B2520 (16px oak for the latest); catalog numbers 11px with 0.6px letter-spacing in #7D7266; footer 12px and folio 11px 600 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- 36px side margins. A double rule across the top: 1.6px #2B2520 at y 34 and 0.6px #2B2520 5px below it.
- Running head row at y 64 (section on the left, collection name on the right), title at y 110, subtitle at y 140.
- A 196px wide sidebar panel (#F2ECE3, square corners) from y 170 to 524 on the left: a small caps label ("SHOWN IN OAK") then three stacked cells of flat product silhouettes, each with a 1px #E4DCD0 rule, a 12.5px caption on the left and its catalog number in 600 oak on the right.
- The plot fills the rest (about x 322 to 896, y 196 to 470). Footer: 1px #E4DCD0 rule at y 548, source on the left, folio ("CATALOG | 112") on the right.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #E4DCD0 gridlines at round values, extending 16px past both ends of the plot, with currency labels right-aligned 24px left of the plot.
- A 1px #2B2520 baseline with 5px ticks at each period. Two-level period axis: season codes (SP, AU) on the first row and each year centered under its pair on the second, with short 1px #E4DCD0 separators between years.

Marks:
- Line chart: a stepped line (hold the value, then step vertically at the change), 2.6px oak, round joins, no fill. At every change mark the point with a circle r 5 filled #FBF9F5 with a 2px oak ring; the latest point is a solid oak dot r 6.5. Above each marked point (below it when the value fell) print the value and, 14px under it, a catalog number in the form 04.112 (edition.page).
- Bar chart: slender square-cornered oak bars (about 40% of the band) on the same warm page, with value and catalog number labels above each bar in the same two-line format, the latest bar's value in 16px oak.
- Silhouettes: flat side and front views of the product drawn from simple shapes, oak frame strokes 4px with round caps and #CDB99C cushions (rounded rects, radius 5 to 7). No outlines, no shading.

Avoid: photos, gradients, shadows, rounded plot corners, a legend, more than one data color, and dense gridlines.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the double rule sits above the running head, every price change has a circle and a catalog number, no label touches the line, and the sidebar silhouettes read as furniture at thumbnail size.
