Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Casting Board" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the casting sheet pinned on a rehearsal studio callboard. White board, black tape labels for each group, one square per unit counted, and red push-pin dots for the notable ones. Crisp, graphic and practical.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Board: #FFFFFF.
- Primary series and all strong text: #2D2D2D (charcoal). Secondary series: #BDBDBD (light gray).
- Highlight marker and the key stat: #D2402F (pin red), with a tiny white highlight dot at 75% opacity.
- Secondary text: #6F6F6F. Hairlines: #E4E4E4.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Archivo 800 for the title (31px, -0.6px letter-spacing, charcoal, stating the finding) and big stat numerals (40px, -1px letter-spacing); Archivo 700 for group tape labels (11.5px uppercase, 1.4px letter-spacing, white), the key heading and row totals (14px).
- Work Sans for everything else: eyebrow 11.5px 600 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing in #6F6F6F after a 10px pin-red square; subtitle 15px #6F6F6F; row names 14px 500; key labels 14px 500; stat captions 13.5px; source 11.5px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow at y 52, title at y 96, subtitle at y 124.
- Main area on the left (x 56 to 620): groups, each headed by a black tape label (a #2D2D2D rectangle 20px tall with white caps text) and a 1px #E4E4E4 rule running on to the right; rows of 22px under it, names indented 12px.
- A right-hand panel from x 676 behind a 1px #E4E4E4 vertical rule: a key, a 1.5px charcoal rule, then three stacked big stats (charcoal, #9A9A9A, pin red) with small captions, and a two-line summary.

Axes and grid:
- No axes and no gridlines: each unit is a cell, so the count is readable by eye and each row ends with its total in Archivo 700.

Marks:
- Bar chart: each bar is a row of unit cells 36 x 15 px with 4px gaps, square corners; primary-category cells (charcoal) first, then secondary cells (light gray). Mark notable units with a pin dot: a r 4.2 #D2402F circle with a 1px outline in the cell color, plus a r 1.1 white highlight offset up-left.
- Line chart: 2.5px charcoal line with square 7px charcoal markers at each point, a second series as a 2px #BDBDBD line with light gray squares, notable points as pin-red dots with the same white highlight, group headers as black tape labels above the plot, and faint #E4E4E4 horizontal rules only.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, rounded corners, colors other than charcoal, gray and pin red, and a continuous bar where units can be counted.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every cell count equals its row total, the pin dots sit centered in their cells, tape labels fit their text, and the stats in the side panel add up.
