Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Cask Register" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a page from a distillery's register of casks in bond. Engraved, formal and exact: cream stock inside a heavy navy double border, carved capitals, copper details and old-style figures on every number.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F6F0E1 (cream).
- Border, title, category labels and the emphasized oldest bars: #1B2A4A (deep navy).
- Ordinary bars: #4A5C82 (register navy).
- Accents: #B87333 (copper) for bar caps, the eyebrow, the ornament rule, the box heading, the corner lozenges and brackets.
- Secondary text: #6B6456. Gridlines: #D8CDB4.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Cinzel: eyebrow 600 at 12px, 3px letter-spacing, copper, centered; title 700 at 29px navy, centered, stating the finding; box heading and axis title 600 to 700 at 11px with 2.4 to 2.5px letter-spacing.
- EB Garamond: subtitle italic 19px #6B6456 centered; note body 400 at 16px navy; source and totals italic 15px.
- Numerals on bars and axes use old-style figures. The hosted EB Garamond only serves lining figures, so set every numeral label in Cormorant Garamond (default old-style figures): value labels 700 at 18px, category labels 700 at 19px navy, y-axis numbers 600 at 17px #6B6456.

Layout:
- Engraved double border: a 3.5px #1B2A4A rectangle inset 18px from the canvas edge and a 1px rectangle inset 26px, with a copper diamond lozenge (7px half-diagonal, 1px navy outline) on each outer corner.
- Centered header: eyebrow at y 64, title at y 108, subtitle at y 138, then a copper ornament rule at y 158: two 1px copper lines 138px long either side of a small copper diamond.
- Chart from x 96 to 884 with the baseline at y 486.
- A boxed warehouse note in the top right of the plot, over the short bars: 248 x 104, cream fill, 1.2px navy outline plus a 0.5px inner outline inset 4px, "WAREHOUSE NOTE" in copper Cinzel and three short lines of EB Garamond.
- Footer inside the border: italic source at left, italic total at right.

Axes and grid:
- Gridlines 0.8px #D8CDB4 at round values, numbers right-aligned 10px left of the plot. No y-axis line.
- Baseline as an engraved double rule: 1.5px navy with a 0.6px navy line 3px below it. Axis title "AGE IN YEARS" in Cinzel centered below the labels.

Marks:
- Bar chart: square vertical bars 28px wide (about 64% of the band), #4A5C82, the oldest vintage stock in #1B2A4A. Each bar carries a 3px copper cap 4px wider than the bar sitting on its top. Value labels 10px above the cap, navy for the emphasized bars and #6B6456 for the rest. A 1px copper bracket spans the emphasized group with an italic EB Garamond label above it.
- Line chart: a 2.2px #4A5C82 line with square markers (6px, navy fill) and a small 3px copper bar above each marker as a cap, the emphasized period drawn in #1B2A4A with a heavier 3px stroke; every point labeled with old-style figures.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, rounded corners, lining figures on data labels, sans-serif type, and more than one accent color.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every bar label shows old-style figures, the warehouse box doesn't touch any bar or label, the double border and corner lozenges are intact on all sides, and the title's counts sum correctly.
