Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Casing Program" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a well design schematic on a dark engineering screen. Steel-toned bars hang from a hatched surface line like pipe in a hole, each narrower than the last, with shoe markers, crisp technical labels and colored dashed marker lines across the section.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #151515. Text: #ECECEC; secondary text: #8F8F8F. Grid: #262626.
- Bars: a horizontal steel gradient: #5E656C at 0, #D5DADF at 28%, #8E969E at 50%, #5E656C at 100%, plus a 1.2px #D5DADF highlight line down the left edge.
- Shoe markers: solid #D5DADF triangles.
- Reference lines (formation tops or thresholds): #D9A441 (marl amber), #B98CF2 (salt lavender), #3FB8AF (target teal), each 1.2px dashed 7 5.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Rajdhani. Title 700 30px stating the finding. Subtitle 500 16px muted. Column headers: name 700 12px uppercase with 1.2px letter-spacing muted, size 700 17px text color. Bar-end labels: value 700 16px text color, second line 500 13px muted. Axis labels 600 14px muted. Reference line labels 700 13px uppercase with 0.8px letter-spacing in the line's color. Axis title 700 12px uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- 40px margins. Title at y 50, subtitle at y 78. The zero line (surface) at y 150 from x 130 to 900: 2px #ECECEC with short 0.8px muted diagonal hatch marks every 12px above it.
- Bars in equal slots from x 150 to 900, hanging downward from the zero line to y 540 at the axis maximum. Column headers sit above the zero line (name at y 120, size at y 138).
- Reference lines run across the whole plot with their label left-aligned just above the line at the left end.
- Source note at y 582.

Axes and grid:
- The value axis runs downward. 1px #262626 horizontal lines every 500 units, labels every 1,000 right-aligned left of the plot. No vertical grid.

Marks:
- Bar chart (inverted): each bar hangs from zero; length is the value, width encodes a second attribute in steps (here pipe diameter, 2.3px per inch). Solid 8px wide triangles flare out on both sides at the bar end, like casing shoes. Value label 6px right of the right triangle, 14px below the bar end, with a muted second line under it. Bars start at zero.
- Line chart: lines hang from the top too (value axis downward), drawn as 3px steel-gray (#8E969E) strokes with a 1px #D5DADF highlight offset, ending in the same shoe triangles at each series' last point, with the same dashed reference lines and header labels.

Avoid: 3D perspective, drop shadows, bright fills on bars, rounded bar ends, a legend box (label the reference lines directly), upward-growing bars.

When you're done, render the chart and check that bar lengths are honest from the zero line, labels below each shoe do not touch the next bar or a reference line label, and the steel gradient reads as metal at thumbnail size.
