Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Cash Position" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the cash-forecast screen of friendly small-business bookkeeping software. Calm ivory, one confident teal line that turns into a dashed projection at "Today", a soft likely-range fan, a tidy toolbar, and a reassuring reconciled badge.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Canvas: #FDFCF7 (ivory). Toolbar band and forecast panel: #F3F1E8, with a 1px #E3DFD2 toolbar border and 1px #E3DFD2 diagonal hatch lines (45 degrees, every 7px, 70% opacity) on the forecast panel.
- Main series: #115E59 (deep teal), also the likely-range fan (13% opacity), the active tab text, the badge text and badge circle.
- Inflows and receipts: #15803D (green). Outflows, bills and the low point: #C2410C (red-orange).
- Badge fill #E3F1EC with a #B9DCCF border. Gridlines and separators: #E3DFD2; zero line and ticks #C9C4B5.
- Primary text and the Today marker: #1F2A28. Secondary text: #6B716C.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Lora 600 for the title (26px, #1F2A28, sentence case, stating the finding, e.g. "Forecast: cash bottoms at $9,100 in mid-November").
- Source Sans 3 for everything else with tabular figures (font-variant-numeric: tabular-nums): toolbar account name 600 14px; tabs 14px (500 inactive in #6B716C, 700 active in teal); badge 600 13px; subtitle 15px #6B716C naming the business, measure, unit and the actual and forecast periods; axis labels 13px; month labels and the ACTUAL / FORECAST section tags 700 11px uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing; end value 700 16px teal; low label 700 13px red-orange; scheduled-item labels 600 13px; source 12px.

Layout:
- Toolbar 46px tall across the full width: a 16px rounded-square app icon (rx 4, teal, with three short ivory bars), the account name ("Operating account ····4417"), segmented view tabs ("Activity", "Forecast", "Scenarios"; the active one is a white pill, rx 6, 26px tall, with a 1px #E3DFD2 border and a 1px soft drop shadow at 8% black), and at the right a 24px-tall fully rounded "Reconciled to <date>" badge with a teal circle holding a white check.
- Title at y 94 and subtitle at y 121, 40px left margin.
- Plot from x 96 to 842, y 170 to 404; the right gutter holds the end date, end value and a "likely range" note. Everything right of today sits on the hatched #F3F1E8 forecast panel, which rises 18px above the plot for the FORECAST tag; ACTUAL is tagged at the top left.
- Today: a 1.2px #1F2A28 vertical line with a dark pill (rx 10, 20px tall) above the plot reading "Today, Sep 26" in white 600 12px.
- A "Due" strip at y 452 under the month labels: a 1px #E3DFD2 line with r 4.5 dots for scheduled bills (red-orange) and receipts (green), each joined to the plot by a 1px dotted leader in its color, with a short name and a signed amount and date centered below. A 1px footer rule at y 532, source at the left and a note on how the forecast was built at the right.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines 1px #E3DFD2 with compact dollar labels ("$20k") right-aligned 10px left of the plot. No vertical axis line.
- Month labels centered under 5px #C9C4B5 ticks at the first data point in each month.

Marks:
- Line chart: actual values as a solid 2.6px teal line with r 2.6 solid teal dots; the forecast continues from today as a 2.4px teal dashed line (6 on, 4 off) with r 2.8 ivory dots ringed in teal, inside a teal likely-range fan (13% opacity) that starts at zero width at today and widens steadily. Mark the lowest forecast point with an ivory r 5.5 circle with a 2.2px red-orange ring and a two-line label below-left of it ("Low $9,100", "week of Nov 14") clear of the fan; mark the last point with an ivory r 4.5 dot ringed in teal plus date and value in the right gutter.
- Bar chart: slim teal bars (about 55% of the band) with 3px rounded top corners, actual bars solid and forecast bars as teal outlines on the hatched forecast panel with a thin range whisker on each; the same Today marker and Due strip.

Avoid: a minimum-balance floor line, heavy borders, more than one main line color, 3D, dark mode, drop shadows on data, and smoothing the forecast into a curve that hides the weekly points.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the actual and forecast parts are clearly different (solid vs dashed on the hatched panel), the fan starts at today, the low label and Due labels do not touch the line, fan or each other, and the title's figure matches the lowest forecast value.
