Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Cash Forecast" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a checking-account forecast in a dark aubergine app. A lavender balance line that steps down at each bill, jumps up in bright green on payday, and slips into an amber low-balance zone that is flagged before it happens.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1C1224. Gridlines: #2C2136.
- Balance line: #B9A4F0. Paycheck step and label: #4ADE80.
- Low-balance zone: a band from zero to the threshold filled with #F5B544 fading from 26% to 10% opacity, its top edge a 1px dashed (3/3) #F5B544 line at 60%, the threshold value on the axis in #F5B544 600, and warnings in #F5B544.
- Text: #F1EAF7 (title, bill names, legend, today pill), #9A8BAA (subtitle, amounts, axes, footnote).

Typography (Google Fonts): Albert Sans only, tabular figures for amounts.
- Title 25px 700, letter-spacing -0.4px. Subtitle 14px 500. Legend 12.5px 600. Bill names 11.5px 600, amounts 11px 500 with a true minus sign. Paycheck label 12.5px 700 and amount 12px 600. Axis labels 12px 500. Today pill 11.5px 700. Warning label 12px 700. Footnote 11.5px 500.

Layout:
- 48px margins. Title states the finding (lowest balance and when it recovers); subtitle gives the measure, unit, horizon and days under the threshold. Legend row: Actual, Forecast, Bill, Paycheck, Low-balance zone.
- Plot from x=76 to x=870, y labels right of the plot, dates every 5 days below it with room for bill labels hanging under low points.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only at round values, compact labels ($1K), no axis lines. Today: a 1.5px #F1EAF7 vertical at 70% opacity topped by a 20px fully rounded #F1EAF7 "Today" pill with #1C1224 text.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 3px step line (horizontal, then vertical at each transaction date), solid up to today and dashed (7/5) after. Each bill is a 4.5px #1C1224 dot with a 2.2px #B9A4F0 ring (#F5B544 ring when the balance after it is under the threshold) at the post-bill level, labeled with its name and amount beside it, alternating above and below to avoid collisions (a bill on a long drop can be labeled mid-drop on its left). The paycheck's vertical step is redrawn at 3.5px in #4ADE80 with a 6px #4ADE80 dot at the top and its label to the left. A filled #F5B544 warning triangle with a #1C1224 exclamation (drawn as a small bar and dot) sits just above the threshold where the line enters the band, and a label such as "Under $500 for 4 days, Oct 1 to Oct 4" sits inside the band.
- Bar chart: daily balance columns in #B9A4F0 (future ones at 45% opacity with a 1px dashed outline), columns inside the zone tinted #F5B544, payday column #4ADE80, with the same band, today marker and bill labels.

Avoid: smoothing the steps, red for low balances (use amber), more than one bright accent besides green, and bill labels that cross the line.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each step equals its bill amount, the lowest balance in the title matches the data, the days-under count is right, and no bill label collides with another label, the line or the today pill.
