Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Carat Weight" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a fine jeweler's price list presented on warm ivory card. Elegant, light and airy: platinum bars cut like brilliant diamonds at the top, thin gold facet lines and small pill tags.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FAF6EE (warm ivory). Gridlines and pill borders: #E4DCCD.
- Bars: platinum, a horizontal gradient #A9ADB2 at the left edge, #DCDEE0 at 35%, #B9BCC0 at 70%, #A4A8AD at the right edge, which reads as a polished cylinder.
- Facet lines, eyebrow, bracket and highlighted pill border: #B8914A (soft gold).
- Text: #2B2A28 (ink) for the title and values, #7A746A for secondary text.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Italiana 400 for the title (42px, ink, stating the finding).
- Jost for everything else: eyebrow 500 11px uppercase with 3px letter-spacing in gold; subtitle 15px #7A746A; value labels 500 15px ink; pill labels 12.5px #7A746A (600 ink for the highlighted band); y labels 12px; bracket label 600 13px gold with 1px letter-spacing; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow at y 60, title at y 110, subtitle at y 142. Plot from x 116 to 904, baseline at y 478, top of scale at y 208. Footer rule at y 548 with source at the left and a qualifying note ("G colour, VS1 clarity, excellent cut") at the right.

Axes and grid:
- No y-axis line. Four 1px #E4DCCD gridlines with dollar labels right-aligned 14px left of the plot. A 1px ink baseline.
- Category labels sit in rounded pill tags 14px under the baseline: 90 x 24, radius 12, white fill, 1px #E4DCCD border; the highlighted category gets a 1.2px gold border and ink text.

Marks:
- Bar chart: 56px square-cornered platinum bars. The flat table at the very top of the crown sits exactly on the bar's value, so the whole mark is honest. The crown (height 20% of bar width, table 54% of bar width) is filled white to #EEF0F1 and runs down to the girdle, where the rectangular bar body begins; inside the bar top a pavilion triangle (depth 42% of bar width, shortened on very short bars so it never touches the baseline) filled #E9EBEC at 75% opacity. Draw all facets in 1px #B8914A: the crown outline, lines from each table corner to the girdle at 30% from center and to the center, and pavilion lines from the girdle ends and the 30% points down to the culet. Value label centered 12px above the crown.
- Line chart: a 1.5px #B8914A line over a platinum gradient area (#DCDEE0 to transparent), with each point drawn as a small diamond in profile (14px wide crown and pavilion, white fill, 1px gold facet lines) and the value above it. Category labels in the same pill tags.

Labels and annotation:
- Mark the key jump with a 1px gold bracket over the two bars, a 2.2px gold dot at each end, and a label like "+70% per carat" centered above it. Compute the percentage from the data.

Avoid: saturated colors, heavy shadows, thick outlines, rounded bar tops, dark backgrounds and more than one gold accent annotation.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each crown's table lines up with its value on the y axis, the diamond facets are crisp and centered on each bar, the shortest bar still contains its pavilion, the value labels clear the crowns, and the jump percentage is arithmetically right.
