Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Capacity Factor" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a solar operator's year-over-year dashboard seen at night. Deep indigo sky, warm sunlit lines, one glowing current year, geometric sans type.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #131535 (deep indigo) with a subtle radial highlight of #23265A centered near the top right (radius about 90% of the width) fading into #131535.
- Series, oldest to newest: #E6D7A8 (pale gold), #E07A2A (amber), #FFE14D (bright yellow, current period). The newest is always the brightest.
- Text: #ECEAF7. Secondary text: #9C9DC6. Gridlines: #272A5C. Inset card: fill #1B1E48 with a 1px #34387A border; inset segments #8C90E0, #6A6EC4, #4B4F9E.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Sora for all text. Eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase with 3px letter-spacing in #FFE14D; title 29px 600 #ECEAF7 with -0.5px letter-spacing, stating the finding; subtitle 14px 300 #9C9DC6 with measure, unit and a computed comparison; axis labels 12px #9C9DC6; series end labels 13px 600 in each series color (current 14px 700); inset label 10px 600 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing, inset value 28px 600 with a 14px 400 unit; source 11px 300.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title about y 94, subtitle about y 122. Plot from x 96 to about x 820 (leaving room for end labels on the right), y 176 to y 500. Month labels 26px below the plot.
- A 236 x 98 inset card with 8px radius placed in empty space inside the plot (below the summer hump), showing the site's installed capacity as a large number plus a thin 6px segmented bar of its build phases with small numbers under each segment.

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines; 1px #272A5C horizontal gridlines at round values with percentage labels right-aligned 14px left of the plot. The y axis may start above zero for a line chart.

Marks:
- Line chart: monotone smooth curves. Older years thin (2px pale gold, 2.4px amber); the current year 3.4px bright yellow with a soft glow underneath (the same path at 8px, 45% opacity, Gaussian blur 4). At each year's peak month: the current year gets a tiny sun glyph (a r 5 filled circle with a 1.5px indigo ring and eight 1.5px round-capped rays from r+2.5 to r+6), prior years get a 3px dot with an indigo ring. The current year's peak value sits 18px above its sun in 14px 600 yellow, and its last point gets a r 4 dot with a two-line label (year, then latest value).
- Bar chart: grouped bars per month, one per year in the same three colors, 3px top corner radius, the current year's bars with the same soft yellow glow, and a small sun glyph above the tallest current-year bar.
- End labels for finished years at the right edge, nudged apart vertically so they never touch.

Avoid: straight polyline segments, markers on every point, cold blues or greens for data, a second y axis, and heavy gridlines.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the current year is clearly the brightest mark, the sun glyph's rays are visible at thumbnail size, the end labels do not collide, and the inset card sits over empty plot space without covering any line.
