Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Canopy Index" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a remote-sensing monitor for a forest block. Quiet and nocturnal: deep forest green ground, a soft glowing light-green signal over a translucent historical range band, satellite passes as a tick rug, and one amber annotation card pinned above an event line.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0F2419 (deep forest green).
- Main series: #9BD77E (light leaf green).
- Historical range band: #4F8A5F at 42% opacity.
- Event accent (marker line, card border, card heading, event dot): #F0B452 (amber).
- Text: #E6F2DF primary, #86A391 secondary. Gridlines and dividers: #1E3A2A. Card fill: #16321F.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Syne throughout. Eyebrow 12px 700 uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing in #9BD77E; title 31px 700 with -0.6px letter-spacing in #E6F2DF, stating the finding with its number; subtitle 15px 400 #86A391; legend 13px 600; y labels 12px; year labels 14px 700 #E6F2DF; card heading 12px 700 uppercase with 1.2px letter-spacing; card body 14px 600 and 13px 400; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 60, title at y 104, subtitle at y 134, a legend row at y 164 (a line sample, a band swatch, a tick sample).
- Plot from x 80 to x 880 and y 250 to y 486, leaving a strip above the plot for the annotation card (y 148 to y 230) so it never covers data.
- A pass-tick rug under the plot: a 1px #1E3A2A rule 6px below the baseline and a 10px #86A391 tick for every observation date.
- Year labels 44px below the baseline, left-aligned just after thin vertical year dividers that run from the plot top to below the rug.

Axes and grid:
- Four horizontal 1px #1E3A2A gridlines with 12px labels at the left; no axis lines, no x tick labels other than years.

Marks:
- Line chart: a smooth monotone line through the observations, 2.6px #9BD77E, round joins, over a glow copy of the same path (7px, 35% opacity, Gaussian blur 5, filter region set to the full canvas in user space). The historical range is a smooth closed band (upper edge forward, lower edge back) in #4F8A5F at 42%. Mark the last pre-event point with a 4px ring (#0F2419 fill, 2px #9BD77E) and the first post-event point with a 5px #F0B452 dot.
- Bar chart: slim rounded-top bars (2px radius) in #9BD77E at 85% opacity per period, with the historical range drawn as a #4F8A5F 42% band behind them, and the event period's bar in #F0B452.
- Event: a 1.2px #F0B452 vertical line dashed 3 3 from the card's pointer down through the rug. The card is a 272 x 82 px rounded rectangle (8px radius), #16321F fill, 1px #F0B452 border at 75% opacity, with a 12 x 7 px pointer at the bottom centered on the event line; inside, the uppercase event name and date, then two short lines quantifying the effect against the normal range.

Avoid: filled areas under the main line, bright white text, more than one accent color, heavy gridlines, and cards that sit over the data.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the glow is not clipped, the card's pointer lines up with the event line, the card's numbers are computed from the data, and the tick rug shows one tick per observation.
