Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Canopy Growth" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a landscape architect's growth study sketched on trace paper. Soft, organic and botanical, but drawn with the discipline of a planning sheet: quiet grid, clear measured-versus-projected split and hand-feeling brush strokes.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #EEF1EA (pale green-gray trace paper) with a very faint streaky fiber texture (fractal noise, base frequency about 0.9 horizontally and 0.02 vertically, tinted green-gray at about 9% opacity).
- Series, in this order: #40602A (moss), #AD8428 (olive), #86B0A0 (sage). A fourth series, if needed, in #6E7B5A.
- Ink for the title, today marker and axis line: #2E3A2C. Secondary text: #6B7466. Grid and footer rule: #CBD2C4. Projection wash: #DCE3D4 at 45% opacity.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Cormorant Garamond 600 for the title, 36px, ink, sentence case, stating the finding, with lining figures (font-variant-numeric: lining-nums).
- Karla for everything else: eyebrow 11.5px 700 uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing in moss; subtitle 15px #6B7466 with measure, unit and period; axis labels 13px; direct labels 14px 700 in the series color with a 13px regular value line under them; the "Measured" and "Projected" tags 12px 700 with 1.2px letter-spacing; source 12px; a sheet number ("SHEET L-204") 11px 700 with 2px letter-spacing at the bottom right.

Layout:
- 48px side margins. Eyebrow at the top, title about 44px below it, subtitle under the title. Plot from x 88 to 790 and y 170 to 452, leaving about 120px on the right for direct labels. A 1px #CBD2C4 footer rule near the bottom with the source line and sheet number.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal grid lines only, 0.9px #CBD2C4, dotted (1 on, 5 off, round caps); no zero grid line.
- Y labels left of the plot, right-aligned; add the unit only to the top label ("80%").
- A 1.2px ink x-axis baseline with 5px ticks at every fifth period and labels 24px below it.
- A "Planted" row under the axis labels: for each series' start period draw a plan-view tree symbol (a 10px scalloped circle with 9 bumps, 22% fill and 1.2px stroke in the series color, five short branch spokes and a 1.8px center dot) centered 56px below the axis, joined to the axis by a 1px dashed (2 on, 2 off) leader, with the year in 12px 700 Karla in the series color to its right. Label the row "Planted" in 11px 700 at the left.

Marks:
- Line chart: every line is a monotone smooth curve drawn as a brush stroke: a 5px round-capped stroke at 88% opacity plus a 1.4px companion stroke offset by (0.8, -1.4) px at 45% opacity, both passed through a subtle displacement filter (fractal noise base frequency 0.06, 2 octaves, displacement scale 2.6). Measured values end at a "today" marker: a 1px ink dashed (3 on, 3 off) vertical line with "Measured" to its left and "Projected" (plus a small "from 2026 survey" note) to its right. Beyond it the lines continue as 4.2px dashes (9 on, 8 off) that fade from full to 30% opacity by the right edge (a horizontal gradient mask), over the pale projection wash. Where each line meets today, a 4.5px circle with a paper fill and a 2.2px ring in the series color. End each line with a 3.2px dot and a direct label.
- Bar chart: slender square-cornered bars (about 45% of the band) in the series colors at 85% opacity, run through the same gentle displacement filter so their edges look brushed; projected bars drawn as dashed outlines with a 30% fill that fades toward the right. Put the tree symbols under the categories that mark a planting event, and value labels in 13px Karla above the bars.

Avoid: hard-edged digital lines, drop shadows, saturated greens, a boxed legend (label the lines directly) and heavy axes.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the brush texture reads but stays subtle, the projection clearly fades after the today line, the tree symbols line up exactly with their years and the finding in the title matches the data.
