Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Call Volume Hourly" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a communications-center weekly shift roster pinned to the wall. Pale yellow paper, solid day tabs across the top, a dense run of hourly bars, night shifts tinted and one boxed callout on the busiest hour.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFCEB (pale roster yellow).
- Bars alternate by day between #D97706 (amber) and #475569 (slate): Monday amber, Tuesday slate, and so on. The day tabs use the same color as their day's bars.
- Night-shift tint columns: #F6EFCF. Gridlines and footer rule: #E7DFC0. Hour-tick box border: #CFC6A4.
- Ink: #1F2937. Secondary text: #78716C. Eyebrow: #D97706.

Typography (Google Fonts), all Signika:
- Eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase, 2.2px letter-spacing, amber.
- Title 28px 600 #1F2937, stating the finding. Subtitle 16px 300 #78716C with measure, period and total.
- Day tabs: day and date 14px 700 white with 1px letter-spacing, and a 12px 400 white (85% opacity) daily total below.
- Axis numbers 13px 400; hour ticks 11px; callout label 11px 600 amber with 1.6px letter-spacing and value 16px 700; notes 13px 300; footer 12px, right footer 11px 600 caps with 1.6px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow at y 58, title at y 96, subtitle at y 124.
- A row of seven day tabs (40px tall, 6px radius, 6px apart) directly above the plot, one per day, each exactly as wide as its day's column.
- Plot from x 76 to 916, y 214 to 470: seven 120px day columns of 24 hourly slots (5px each).
- Below the axis, a single-line note explaining the tint and rules. Footer rule at y 548 with the source left and a caps note right.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #E7DFC0 gridlines every 20 units, labels right-aligned 10px left of the plot. No y-axis line.
- Midnight rules: 1px #1F2937 at 55% opacity, from just above the plot to 6px below the baseline, at every day boundary.
- A 1.2px #1F2937 baseline. Hour ticks at 06, 12 and 18 in each day: a 5px tick and a 22 x 16 px rounded box (5px radius, #FFFCEB fill, 1px #CFC6A4 stroke) holding the two-digit hour in 11px Signika.
- Tint the night shift (19:00 to 07:00) of every day with #F6EFCF columns behind the bars.

Marks:
- Bar chart: one thin bar per hour (slot width minus 1.4px, square corners), filled with its day's color, so the week reads as alternating amber and slate blocks.
- Line chart: one 1.8px line per day segment in that day's color, broken at each midnight rule, with a light 12% opacity area fill in the same color; the rest of the roster styling is unchanged.

Labels and annotation:
- The single highest hour gets a callout: a 2.5px dot on the bar top, a 1px elbow leader going up and left to a white box (6px radius, 1.2px #1F2937 border, about 150 x 52 px) with "BUSIEST HOUR" in amber caps and "Fri 18:00, 74 calls" style text below. Make sure the box clears the day tabs and neighbouring bars.

Avoid: gradients, rounded bar tops, a legend (the day tabs do that job), more than two data colors, and heavy borders.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each day tab matches its bar color, midnight rules land exactly on day boundaries, the hour boxes don't touch, and the callout names the true maximum.
