Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Calcium Traces" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a two-photon imaging figure on a black microscope screen. Many thin raw traces stacked like a seismograph, colored along a perceptual ramp, with a scale bar instead of axes. Quiet, dense and exact.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #0B0B0E. Primary text: #ECEAF2. Secondary text: #8A8794. Stimulus bars and open markers: #55535E.
- Trace ramp from first to last series (deep violet to yellow): #6B4BD8, #8747C9, #A445B3, #C04C98, #D85E7A, #EA7A5A, #F29E3E, #F5D546. With fewer series, sample the ramp evenly; always keep the violet and yellow ends.
- Stimulus windows: #FFFFFF at 4.5% opacity as columns behind all traces.

Typography (Google Fonts): Sono for everything.
- Title 600, 26px, -0.4px letter-spacing, #ECEAF2, stating the finding. Subtitle 400, 13.5px #8A8794 (indicator, measure, count, duration, stimulus).
- Column headers 600, 11px uppercase with 1.8px letter-spacing in #8A8794 ("CELL" on the left, the summary measure on the right).
- Series labels: zero-padded numbers ("01") 600, 14px in the trace color, right-aligned just left of the trace start.
- Right-column values 14px: 600 #ECEAF2 when the series passes the criterion, 400 #8A8794 when it does not. Stimulus and scale labels 12px.

Layout:
- Traces run from about x 116 to 800. Each series gets an equal lane (about 42px) and is drawn around its own baseline at 62% of the lane height; traces may overshoot into the lane above, which is expected.
- Right column (x 826 to 904): a status dot (filled r 4 in the trace color if it passes, open r 3.5 #55535E ring if not) and the summary number right-aligned; a small key under the header.
- Under the traces: a row of #55535E stimulus bars 8px tall at their true times with condition labels below, and "stim" at the left.
- Source line at the bottom-left, 11.5px #8A8794, stating how the summary number is computed.

Axes and grid:
- No axes, no ticks and no gridlines. Instead an L-shaped 2px #ECEAF2 scale bar at the bottom-right: a horizontal arm of a round time span (5 s) ending at the plot's right edge and a vertical arm of a round signal change (100% of the measure), with labels "5 s" centered under the horizontal arm and "100% dF/F" beside the vertical arm.

Marks:
- Line chart: raw traces as 1.35px lines with round joins, no smoothing and no fills, one color per series from the ramp, stacked with fixed vertical offsets on one shared amplitude scale (30px per 100% change).
- Bar chart: stacked lanes of thin vertical bars (bar width about 70% of the bin) rising from each lane's baseline in the lane's ramp color, the same numbered labels, stimulus columns and scale bar; never let bars from one lane fill another lane's label area.

Avoid: axes, gridlines, glows, smoothing that hides the noise, legends (the numbered labels and ramp do that), and any color outside the ramp for data.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the scale bar arms match the stated values on the shared amplitude scale, stimulus columns line up with the stimulus bars, labels sit at each trace's baseline, and the headline count matches the right-column criterion.
