Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "CAC Payback" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a unit economics slide from a subscription finance team. Dark, exact and calm: red while money is still out, mint once it is earned back, a bright white zero line and a flag planted on the month it flips.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Canvas: #111418 (near-black slate).
- Positive / recovered values: #6EE7B7 (cool mint). Negative / unrecovered values: #C4545A (muted red). Bars at 88% opacity; the crossing bar at 100%.
- Zero baseline, payback flag, title: #FFFFFF.
- Metric card: #1A1F26 fill with a 1px #2E3540 border and #2A3039 row dividers. Gridlines: #252B33. Secondary text: #8A929E.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Geist for words: title 32px 700, -0.8px letter-spacing, white, stating the payback month; subtitle 15px #8A929E with measure and unit; legend 12.5px 500; card labels 13px 500 #8A929E; notes 12 to 12.5px.
- Geist Mono for every number: axis labels 11.5px ("+$40", true minus sign for negatives, "$0" in white); period labels 11px ("M9"); endpoint values 12px 600 in the bar color; card values 15px 600; callout heading 11.5px 600 uppercase with 1px tracking.

Layout:
- 56px left margin; title baseline y 64, subtitle y 94; legend (10px rounded squares, "Unrecovered" and "Recovered, in profit") right-aligned at y 132.
- Plot from x 88 to 900, value range a little wider than the data (here -100 to +120), y 168 to 520.
- Metric card 232 x 132 (rx 10) placed in the empty quadrant of the plot (here lower right, under positive bars): four rows 28px apart ("CAC", "24-mo LTV" in mint, "LTV : CAC", "Payback"), labels left, values right-aligned.
- Source line at y 580, with the period axis title right-aligned on the same line.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #252B33 horizontal gridlines at round values; no vertical lines, no axis lines. The zero line is 2.5px solid white across the full plot.
- Label every third period below the plot.

Marks:
- Bar chart (diverging columns): one column per period, 68% of the slot wide, with 2.5px rounding only on the end away from zero. Red below zero, mint above. Label only the first and last bars with their values.
- Payback flag: at the first period at or above zero, a 1.6px white pole from the zero line up to near the top of the plot, a white swallowtail flag (26 x 16 px with a 7px notch) at its top, a r 4 white dot where it meets the zero line, and to its right "PAID BACK IN MONTH 9" plus a note with the crossing value, placed above the tallest nearby bars.
- Line chart: a 2.5px line that is red below zero and mint above (split with a clip at zero), with a translucent 18% fill to the zero line in the same colors, and the same white zero line, flag and card.

Avoid: gradients, glows, a legend inside the plot, labels on every bar, a thin or gray zero line, and card numbers that are not computed from the data (LTV = cumulative margin before CAC; LTV:CAC = LTV / CAC).

When you're done, render the chart and check that the flag sits exactly on the first non-negative period, the callout text clears every bar, the card math is right, and red and mint never share a bar.
