Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Brush Lettering" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a hand-lettering studio's poster on a deep aubergine board. The key series is one confident brush-pen stroke, fuller in the middle and dry-brushed at the ends, with casual handwritten callouts. Warm and personal, but the data stays exact.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #231726 deep aubergine.
- Main series, swash and brush dots: #F2A07B peach.
- Title, comparison series and callouts: #F4E9D8 warm cream (the comparison line at 70% opacity).
- Grid stipple and baseline: #8E6B8F muted mauve. Secondary text (subtitle, axis figures, month labels, source): #C7B2C4.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Kaushan Script for the headline (48px, #F4E9D8, left-aligned, stating the finding) and the handwritten callouts (17 to 19px, #F4E9D8).
- Karla for everything else: subtitle 16px #C7B2C4; axis figures and month labels 14px #C7B2C4; direct series labels 17px weight 700 in the series color; source 13px #C7B2C4.

Layout:
- Headline baseline y 94 at x 72. Beneath it a peach brush swash from x 78 to 560 around y 110 to 122, drawn with the same brush-stroke technique as the main line at a 6px maximum width.
- Subtitle baseline y 158. Plot area x 96 to 842, y 200 to 500; month labels 28px below the baseline; direct labels 18px right of the last point; source at y 572.

Axes and grid:
- A stipple grid: rows of r 1 #8E6B8F dots every 9px at each gridline value, the whole grid at 75% opacity. No vertical grid.
- Baseline: a 1.5px #8E6B8F line with round caps. Y figures 18px left of the plot, right-aligned. Start the y axis at zero.

Marks:
- Line chart: the main series is a tapered brush stroke, drawn as filled shapes along a densely sampled monotone curve. Width = 1.2 + 14 x sin(pi x t)^0.55 where t runs 0 to 1 along the line, so it is full in the middle and thin at the ends. Build it from a solid core ribbon (36% of the width) plus 11 bristle ribbons spread across 86% of the width, each about 1/11 of the width x 1.05 thick, starting and ending at slightly random points (the outer bristles give out soonest). Cut three 0.9px dry-brush streaks in the background color through the first 10 to 22% and last 12 to 22% of the stroke. Brush dots (ellipses 9 x 7.4 px, rotated -24 degrees, #F2A07B) on the first point and the key points. The comparison series is a plain 2px #F4E9D8 monoline at 70% opacity.
- Bar chart: each bar is a vertical brush stroke of peach: a filled bar with bristle streaks running along its length, a slightly ragged dry-brush top (bristles ending at different heights over the top 8px) and a clean foot on the baseline. Comparison bars in #F4E9D8 at 70% opacity. Values in Karla 700 above each bar.

Labels and annotation:
- Handwritten arrow callouts in Kaushan Script: a short 1.8px #F4E9D8 curved arrow with an open two-stroke head (11px), pointing from the note to the key point. Two or three callouts at most, each naming the value.
- Label series directly at their ends; no legend.

Avoid: uniform-width strokes for the main series, solid gridlines, glow effects, more than two data colors, sharp geometric sans titles, and callouts that cross the data.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the main stroke visibly tapers and shows dry-brush streaks at both ends, the callout arrows point at the right points without crossing the lines, and the stipple grid stays quieter than the data.
