Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Brood Temperature" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a hive sensor log viewed at night. A dark brown-black field, one warm glowing line held perfectly steady inside a thin gold target band, and a quiet gray line swinging far below it. Rounded, friendly geometric type.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1C1510 (brood-comb dark). Gridlines: #3A2E24. Primary text: #F3E6D3. Secondary text: #A8977F.
- Controlled series: #F29B38 (warm orange), with a soft glow. Eyebrow in the same orange.
- Target band: #E8CF8A (pale gold) at 20% opacity with 0.8px edge lines in #E8CF8A at 70% opacity and a 12px 600 label above its left end in #E8CF8A.
- Comparison series: #9A9088 (warm gray).
- Night (or other recurring) periods: #000000 columns at 18% opacity behind everything.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Sen throughout. Eyebrow 12px 700 uppercase, 2.4px letter-spacing. Title 28px 700 in #F3E6D3 stating the finding. Subtitle 14.5px #A8977F with measure, unit, sampling, period and the observed ranges.
- Axis labels 12.5px #A8977F; the top y label carries the unit ("40 °C"). Inline legend labels 14px (700 orange, 600 gray). Annotation 13.5px 700 #F3E6D3 with a 13px #A8977F second line. Footer 12px. Use a true minus sign for negative values.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow y 58, title y 98, subtitle y 126. Plot from x 84 to 862, y 180 to 496; the space to the right holds the inline legend. Footer at y 572: source left, a note explaining the shaded columns right.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #3A2E24 gridlines every 10 units, labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot. No axis lines. A 6px tick at each day boundary along the bottom, date labels every second day, left-aligned 2px after the tick.

Marks:
- Line chart: controlled series 2.4px #F29B38, straight segments, with a glow (Gaussian blur 3 merged under the line, filter in user space covering the whole canvas). Comparison series 1.4px #9A9088, monotone smooth. End each line with a dot (3.5px orange, 3px gray) and its name 10px to the right as the legend. Mark the key event with a 5px open #F3E6D3 circle, a dashed 1px vertical leader (2 on 3) up to a right-aligned two-line note that gives both values.
- Bar chart: bars 1px apart in #9A9088 for the comparison measure, with the controlled measure as #F29B38 bars that glow, the gold target band drawn across the plot behind them, and the same night columns and inline labels.

Avoid: cool blues, a boxed legend, dual y axes, heavy gridlines, glow on anything except the controlled series.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the band sits exactly between its two values, the glow is not clipped, the event annotation points at the true extreme, and every number in the title and subtitle matches the data.
