Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Bronze Plaque" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a cast bronze dedication plaque at the gate of a public garden. Oxidized field, verdigris creeping in from the rim, polished raised bars and engraved Roman capitals. Solid, civic and permanent.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Plaque field: #3A2E22 oxidized bronze, with a faint fractal-noise grain (baseFrequency 0.9, 2 octaves, alpha 7%).
- Patina: #5E8C7A verdigris, only near the rim.
- Polished bronze: #C08B4A for bar faces, the raised border and the plinth; #E6B67A for lit edges, highlights and value labels; #7A5228 for the shaded right bevel; #9C6C36 as the dark end of the face gradient.
- Shadow: #1C150E for cast shadows, cut edges and the outer ground. Engraved text fill: #D9BC8E.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Cinzel for engraved capitals: title 700, 32px, 4px letter-spacing, all caps, centered, stating the finding; category or year labels 600, 17px, 1.5px letter-spacing (type the lowercase so Cinzel sets it as small capitals, e.g. "1940s"); source line 600, 12px, 3px letter-spacing.
- Marcellus for figures and prose: subtitle 17px #D9BC8E at 85% opacity; value labels 17px #E6B67A; axis figures 14px; notes 15px.
- Engraved (inset) text: draw a #1C150E copy offset 1.2px up and left, a #E6B67A copy at 55% opacity offset 1px down and right, then the #D9BC8E text on top.

Layout:
- Outer ground #1C150E; the plaque a 940 x 580 rounded rectangle (radius 12) inset 10px.
- Verdigris: a 30px #5E8C7A stroke around the rim, blurred (stdDeviation 9) and masked by fractal noise (baseFrequency 0.028, 3 octaves, alpha = 3.2 x noise - 1.25) so it forms patchy crust, clipped to the plaque.
- A double raised border inset 26px (3.5px) and 36px (1.6px), radius 6: each a #C08B4A stroke with a #E6B67A copy 1px up-left and a #1C150E copy 1px down-right.
- Rivets 56px in from each corner: r 7.5 with a radial gradient (#F3D39C highlight at the upper left through #C08B4A to #7A5228), over a soft #1C150E shadow offset 1.5px right and 2px down.
- Title baseline y 100, subtitle y 134, plot x 120 to 850 and y 196 to 462, category labels 34px under the plinth, source centered at y 540.

Axes and grid:
- Engraved gridlines: a 1px #1C150E line with a 0.8px #5A4630 line 1px below it. Y figures in Marcellus, 14px left of the plot, with units ("$100k").
- A raised plinth under the bars: 6px #C08B4A with a 1px #E6B67A top edge and a 1.5px #1C150E bottom edge, 10px wider than the plot on each side.

Marks:
- Bar chart: raised bars about 60% of the band (54px at 8 bars). Face: a diagonal gradient #E6B67A to #C08B4A (45%) to #9C6C36. A 5px bevel: top facet #E6B67A, left facet #D9A460, right facet #7A5228. A cast shadow behind each bar, offset 5px right and 5px down, #1C150E at 75% opacity, blurred 2.5px. Values 12px above each bar in Marcellus #E6B67A.
- Line chart: a raised bronze rail: a 6px #C08B4A line with a 1.5px #E6B67A highlight offset 1.5px up-left and a blurred #1C150E shadow 3px down-right. Points as small raised studs (r 6 with the rivet gradient). A second series as a 4px verdigris #5E8C7A rail with the same bevel treatment, labeled directly in Cinzel.

Avoid: flat bars without bevels, bright saturated colors, sans-serif type, patina over the data area, glossy reflections and legends.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the light consistently comes from the top left on bars, border, rivets and lettering, the engraved title reads cleanly at thumbnail size, and the verdigris stays at the rim.
