Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Brewhouse Yield" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a production report etched onto a brushed steel plate on the brewhouse wall. Industrial, sturdy and warm: condensed headings, slab-serif figures, copper bars and a crisp white target line.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Plate: #26292C. Brushed grain: a 1px horizontal stripe every 2px across the canvas, each randomly #FFFFFF or #000000 at 1 to 4.5% opacity, plus a diagonal sheen gradient (white at 5%, 0%, 3%).
- A 1.5px #3E4246 frame inset 14px with 6px radius, and a rivet in each corner (r 5, #44484C with a 1px #1B1D1F edge and a 1.6px white highlight at 25% offset up-left).
- Bars that meet the goal: copper #B87333 as a horizontal gradient #D08A48 to #B87333 (45%) to #9A5E27. Bars below the goal: pewter #6B6F72 as #7C8083 to #6B6F72 to #5A5E61. A 1.5px white cap at 30% opacity on each bar top.
- Target line: #FFFFFF. Rolling average: #EFE3C8 (cream) dots, with no halo, fill or shadow under them.
- Text: #E9E6E0; muted #9A9C98; gridlines #3A3E42; baseline #9A9C98. Eyebrow: #D08A48.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Oswald for the eyebrow (500, 12.5px, 2.6px letter-spacing, uppercase, #D08A48), the title (600, 31px, #E9E6E0, stating the finding), the axis title (500, 11px, 2.4px letter-spacing), target labels ("TARGET" 500 9.5px, "75%" 600 13px, white).
- Zilla Slab for the subtitle (400, 15px, muted), legend (500, 13px), tick labels (12.5px muted), category labels (500, 11.5px; below-goal ones brighter #C3C5C2), in-bar values (600, 10.5px, #1A1C1E on copper, #EDEDEB on pewter) and the footer (12px; italic note on the right).

Layout:
- 56px left margin. Eyebrow at y 64, title at 104, subtitle at 132, legend row at 166, plot from x 92 to 884 with the baseline at y 496. Footer at y 572.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines every 20 units in #3A3E42, labels right-aligned 10px left of the plot, the unit on the top label only. Leave out any gridline label that would crowd the target label.
- The target is a 1.2px white line across the plot, labelled at the left in two lines ("TARGET" over the value).

Marks:
- Bar chart: square-cornered vertical bars 26px wide at 20 bars, from zero. Bars below the target switch to pewter. Every bar carries its value in a row 12px above the baseline, inside the bar, in small slab figures (a zero-based axis makes close values look alike, so the labels do the comparing; the bar tops stay clear for the target line and rolling average). Category numbers run below in small slab figures.
- Line chart: a 2.6px #B87333 line with small square copper markers (6px) that turn pewter #6B6F72 below the target, the same white target line, and the cream dotted rolling average (3.2px round-capped dots, 6px apart) riding above it.
- Rolling average on either chart: 3.2px #EFE3C8 round-capped dots (dasharray 0.1 6) with nothing drawn beneath them, starting where the window is full.

Avoid: halos or shadows under the rolling average (they read as dark wedges on the bar tops), rounded bars, glossy 3D, drop shadows under bars, bright orange, and more than two bar fills.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the brushed grain stays subtle, the pewter and copper bars are distinguishable in grayscale by their fill and label color, the rolling-average dots read clearly over the bar tops, and the goal count in the title matches the data.
