Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Box Score" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the agate page of a newspaper sports section. Dense, orderly and tabular, printed on off-white newsprint, with one thin red rule and a family of blues that reads like spot-color printing.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F5F3EE newsprint. White #FFFFFF only inside the score box.
- Header red #C8102E: the 3px rule across the top, the eyebrow, "FINAL" and negative plus-minus values.
- Four blues for ordered segments (quarters, stages), darkest first: #0B3D91, #3F6DBF, #6F97D8, #9DBBE6. #0B3D91 also colors positive plus-minus values.
- Ink #1A1A1A for names, figures and rules; secondary text #6B6862; grid #DCD8CF with every other minute line in #CBC6BB; zebra rows #ECE9E1 at 60% opacity.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Roboto Condensed for everything, with tabular figures (font-variant-numeric: tabular-nums) in every numeric column.
- Eyebrow 12px 700 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing, red. Title 27px 700 ink, stating the finding. Subtitle 15px 400 #6B6862.
- Column heads 12px 700 uppercase, 1px letter-spacing. Names 15px, 700 for starters or primary rows and 400 for the rest; position 13px #6B6862. Stat columns 16px 700 right-aligned. Jersey numbers 12.5px 700 inside circles. Notes like "DNP, coach's decision" 13px italic #6B6862.

Layout:
- 40px side margins. A 3px red rule at the very top (y 28), eyebrow at y 52, title at y 88, subtitle at y 112.
- A final-score box at the top right (about 230 x 74, white with a 1px #DCD8CF border): "FINAL" in red, then one row per team with period scores in 14px and the total in 16px 700, the winner's name in 700.
- A 1.2px ink rule under the column heads; one row per item, 34px tall, zebra striped. Left: a 12px-radius circled number with a 1.3px ink stroke, then name and a small category code. Middle: the chart. Right: three right-aligned stat columns (e.g. MIN, PTS, +/-) at about x 772, 836 and 904.
- Split groups (starters and bench) with a 0.6px ink hairline and a 12px gap. Close with a 1.2px ink rule and a bold TEAM totals row.
- Source at the bottom left in 12px, a short reading note at the bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- No boxed plot. Thin vertical gridlines every 6 units (0.6px #DCD8CF), every 12 units slightly stronger (1px #CBC6BB), running through all rows.
- Axis values only once, in the totals row, in 12px #6B6862 tabular figures, the last one carrying the unit ("48 MIN").
- A legend of 12 x 12 squares with 700 labels (Q1 to Q4) sits in the column-head row above the bars.

Marks:
- Bar chart: stacked horizontal bars 18px tall with square ends, segments in the four blues from darkest to lightest, each segment 1px shorter than its value so a thin paper gap separates them. The bar total is not repeated at the bar end; it lives in the MIN column. Rows with zero get an italic note instead of a bar.
- Line chart: one row-aligned small line per item is too fussy; instead draw a single panel with one 2px line per series in the four blues (darkest for the most important), square end caps, a 3px square marker at each point, and the same right-hand stat columns listing each series' last value, total and change.

Avoid: rounded corners, gradients, shadows, bright background fills, more than one red element per region, proportional (non-tabular) figures in columns and any decorative icons.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every numeric column is right-aligned with tabular figures, stacked segments are in quarter order with visible gaps, totals add up to the team row, and the plus-minus colors follow the sign.
