Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Book Jacket" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a mid-century novel's dust jacket. Flat, solid, screen-printed color on an oatmeal ground, bold tracked capitals and a friendly slab-ish serif, with the data forming the jacket's abstract pattern.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Ground: #EDE4D3 (oatmeal) for the front panel; front flap #E2D6BF, with a 1.5px #CDBFA4 fold line dashed 2 on, 5 off.
- Series colors, all solid: #D2601A burnt orange (the highlighted series), #1A6470 teal, #8E8B2B olive, #E3A72F mustard, #7E9CB0 slate blue, #4E3324 cocoa.
- Cocoa #4E3324 also for the title's first line, blurb and publisher's device. Subtitle #6B5443. Axis numerals #A8957C, week numerals #8C7862.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Josefin Sans 700 in capitals for the title: 34px with 6px letter-spacing, two lines on a 40px leading, the second line in burnt orange.
- Young Serif 400 for the subtitle (17px, set like an author's name under the title) and the flap blurb (16px on a 25px leading).
- Josefin Sans for everything small: flap kicker 700 13px with 3.5px letter-spacing in burnt orange; series labels 600 14px caps with 1.8px letter-spacing (700 and burnt orange for the highlight); axis numerals 700 17px; tiny axis captions 600 10px with 2px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- A 236px front flap on the left holding the kicker, a 40 x 3px orange rule, a 9-line blurb that summarizes the finding in prose, the source line, and a publisher's device at the bottom: a 26px cocoa roundel with an inner 1.2px flap-colored ring and a simple bird silhouette, beside a two-line wordmark in tracked caps.
- The front panel starts at x 284: title, subtitle, then the chart from about x 300 to 716, with series labels to the right.

Axes and grid:
- No gridlines or axis lines. Rank numbers (or value ticks) in a single column of bold numerals at the left; week or period numerals along the foot. Tiny tracked captions such as "RANK" and "WEEK".

Marks:
- Line chart: as a bump chart, 8px lines with round joins and caps, straight segments between periods, each drawn over a 14px oatmeal underlay so crossings read as woven. A 9.5px filled circle with a 2.5px oatmeal ring at every point; the final circle carries its rank as a 12px numeral (oatmeal on dark colors, cocoa on mustard and slate). The highlighted series is drawn last. Label each series at its right end in tracked caps.
- Bar chart: thick solid bars with fully rounded 8px ends, separated by generous gaps, in the jacket colors; values in bold Josefin Sans numerals at the bar end, category names in tracked caps.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, textures, thin lines, gridlines, legends in boxes, and any color outside the six jacket inks.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the thick lines stay legible where they cross, every series has a direct label in its own color family, the flap blurb states only true facts from the data, and nothing in the flap collides with the device mark.
