Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Boarding Pass" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the chart printed on an airline boarding pass. A clean card on a pale gray counter, a teal header band, caption/value fields, big monospaced figures and a torn-off stub with the headline number and a barcode.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background behind the card: #E6E9EC (pass gray).
- Card: #FDFCF8 (card stock), rounded 18px, soft shadow (0 10px 12px blur, #1B2B33 at 16%).
- Header band and ordinary marks: #0E5E6F (deep teal). Header text #FFFFFF, header secondary text #CFE5E9.
- Accent: #E4572E (gate orange), only for the one highlighted mark and the stub's headline figure.
- Ink: #1B2B33. Field captions and source: #7A8791. Gridlines #E3E6E9, divider #C9CFD4.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- IBM Plex Mono for every figure and code: value labels 600 19px ink (24px orange for the highlight), category codes 500 16px, field values 500 15px, axis figures 12px #7A8791, stub headline 600 54px orange.
- Barlow for words: header wordmark 700 18px with 3px letter-spacing, title 600 23px ink stating the finding, field captions 600 11px uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing in #7A8791 ("GATE", "SEAT", "MEASURE", "PERIOD"), notes 12px.

Layout:
- Card from x 40 to 920 and y 36 to 564. A 58px teal header band across the top with a small white plane glyph and the wordmark at left, a report name at the right of the main panel and a stub label over the stub.
- A perforation at x 716: two 13px-radius notches cut into the top and bottom edges in the background color, joined by a column of 2.2px holes every 10px.
- Main panel: title at y 138, a row of four caption/value fields (captions y 170, values y 192, 158px apart), a 1px dashed divider (4 on 4), then the chart and a footer line with the source at left and a units note at right.
- Stub (x 740 onward): caption/value pairs stacked down (GATE with the huge headline code, a secondary field beside it, then AVG, VS ALL, BEST), and a barcode 112px tall from about y 396 with a spaced code line under it in 11px mono.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines 1px #E3E6E9, baseline 1px ink. Y figures right-aligned 12px left of the plot. A "GATE"-style caption at the left of the category row.
- A dashed 1.2px ink reference line (6 on 4) for the overall average, labeled in 11px mono on a card-colored chip.

Marks:
- Bar chart: vertical bars 40px wide, 3px top radius with square bottoms, solid teal; the one highlighted bar in orange. Value labels centered 9px above each bar. Category codes centered below the baseline.
- Line chart: a 3px teal line with straight segments and 4px teal dots with a 2px card-colored ring; the highlighted point larger in orange with its value in 24px mono orange. A very light teal area fill (8% opacity) under the line.

Texture:
- Barcode: black-ink (#1B2B33) bars 1 to 4px wide with 1 to 3px gaps, drawn from a seeded random sequence so it looks real.

Avoid: gradients, heavy borders, glossy effects, more than one accent, logos of real carriers, and fonts other than IBM Plex Mono and Barlow.

When you're done, render the chart and check that nothing crosses the perforation, the stub numbers match the chart, the notches cut cleanly through the card edge, and every field caption sits directly above its value.
