Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Board Book" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: die-cut pages of a toddler's board book on a deep teal ground. Chunky, rounded, joyful shapes and oversized friendly numerals, with the discipline of a real children's publisher's sales report.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0F3B3F (deep teal). Offset board shadows: #0A2B2E.
- Bar colors cycle in order: #E7B04A (muted mustard), #EE7A5F (coral), #7EC4E8 (sky). For multiple series, give each series one of these colors in that order.
- Outlines, baseline, numerals and labels: #FFF4DC (cream). Secondary text #9CC3BF.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Fredoka throughout. Title 600 38px cream, stating the finding. Subtitle 400 16px #9CC3BF with measure and unit. Value numerals 700 40px cream. Category labels 500 16px cream, broken onto two centered lines. Source and unit note 400 13px #9CC3BF.

Layout:
- Title baseline y 76 at x 56, subtitle y 108. Three small confetti dots (r 5, 3.5, 3 in mustard, coral, sky) in the top-right corner.
- Plot from x 76 to 884; the tallest bar top at y 208, baseline at y 486. Category labels at y 520 and 540. Source bottom-left, "Values in thousands of copies" (or your unit) bottom-right at y 578.

Axes and grid:
- No gridlines and no y axis at all: every bar carries its value. The baseline is a thick 8px cream rule with round caps, extending 8px past the outer bars.

Marks:
- Bar chart: extra-chunky bars, 96px wide at six categories (about 70% of the slot), with 26px rounded top corners and small 6px rounded feet at the baseline, filled in the cycling colors with a 5px cream outline (round joins). Behind each bar, the same shape offset 8px right and 8px down in #0A2B2E, like the thickness of a board page. A short 4px white highlight stroke at 35% opacity runs along the inside of the top edge. Value numerals centered 18px above each bar. Bars start at zero.
- Line chart: a thick 8px cream line with round caps and joins, with chunky r 13 disc markers that cycle mustard, coral and sky, each with a 4px cream outline and an 8px dark offset disc behind it; oversized numerals above each point. The same thick cream baseline, no gridlines.

Avoid: thin strokes, gridlines, a y axis, small type, gradients, glossy highlights beyond the one short stroke, and using color to mean anything when it only cycles.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the cream outlines are even all round, the numerals never collide with neighbors, the offset shadows stay behind the bars, and the baseline caps are round.
