Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Bench Orders" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the inside of a jeweler's ring box. Deep oxblood velvet, polished gold rods and a gemstone set at the end of each bar: luxurious but orderly, like a workshop ledger presented to a client.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #2A1016 (oxblood velvet), with a radial gradient from #3A1820 near the top center to #1C0A0E at the corners and a faint fractal-noise nap (baseFrequency 0.9, about 10% alpha, tinted dark red).
- Frame and structure gold: #C9A45C. Polished bar gradient (top to bottom): #8A6A2C, #F0D38A at 30%, #C9A45C at 55%, #7A5A22.
- Values: #EAD9A8 (pale gold). Title and row names: #F3E6C8. Secondary text: #B98C8F (dusty rose).
- Gemstones: #2E5DB8 sapphire, #2E9A6A emerald, #C8552D carnelian, #8B5BC0 amethyst, #E0A526 citrine, #7FC8D8 aquamarine, #D2334A ruby.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Playfair Display 600 for the title (31px, #F3E6C8, stating the finding) and values (19px pale gold, right-aligned, lining figures via font-variant-numeric: lining-nums).
- Mulish for everything else: eyebrow 700 11px uppercase with 3px letter-spacing in gold; subtitle 14px dusty rose; row names 600 15px cream with the gemstone name under each in 700 9.5px uppercase with 2px letter-spacing; axis labels 11px; source 11px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow at y 58, title at y 100, subtitle at y 128.
- The plot sits inside a ring-box lid frame: a rounded rectangle (x 40, y 152, 880 x 386, radius 22) with a 1.4px gold stroke, a 0.5px inner line inset 6px at 60% opacity, a 12% black fill and a small 36 x 6 gold clasp centered on the top edge.
- Row labels at x 78; bars from x 300 to 790; values right-aligned at x 884; 48px row pitch. Source and a note on the stones below the frame.

Axes and grid:
- A 1px gold baseline at the bar start. Dotted (1 on, 4 off) 0.6px gold gridlines at 45% opacity with 11px dusty rose labels at the bottom of the frame and a small "HOURS" unit label.

Marks:
- Bar chart (horizontal): 14px polished gold bars with 2px radius, a 0.8px #FFF4D0 highlight along the top edge and a small dark drop shadow. Each bar ends in a bezel-set cabochon centered on the value: a 12.5px gold bezel disc, a 9.5px gem disc in the row's stone color, and a radial shine overlay (white 75% at the upper left fading out, black 45% at the rim).
- Line chart: a 3px polished gold line (same gradient) with each point set as a 7px cabochon in a gold bezel, values in pale gold Playfair above; several series each get their own gemstone color in the cabochons and a direct label.

Avoid: flat yellow gold, bright red backgrounds, thick borders, cluttered gridlines, and any gem color that is not labeled by its row.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the cabochons read as stones at thumbnail size, the bars start at zero, the frame does not crowd the labels, and the share in the subtitle is computed from the data.
