Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Bauhaus" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a 1920s design-school poster. Flat primary colors, pure geometry, a heavy geometric sans set flush left, and an asymmetric composition where the chart is one block among circles, squares and a diagonal.

Colors (use these exact values; nothing else):
- Paper: #F1EADA (warm off-white). Ink: #111111 for all text, rules and the black shapes.
- Primaries, in series order: Red #DE3A2A, Yellow #F2B61C, Blue #1F4FA3. A fourth series, if needed, is solid #111111.
- Flat fills only. No tints, gradients, opacity washes, outlines on bars, or shadows.

Typography (Google Fonts): Jost only.
- Title: 700, 46px, uppercase, letter-spacing 1px, broken into 2 to 3 short stacked lines (50px line step), flush left at x 46. Set the last line in red.
- A black bar 56 x 10px sits above the title, flush left.
- Subtitle: 400, 16px, sentence case, two lines at most, directly under the title.
- Category labels: 600, 14px, uppercase, letter-spacing 1.5px. Axis ticks: 500, 13px. Value labels: 700, 18px. Legend: 500, 14px uppercase, letter-spacing 1.5px. Footer: 500, 12px uppercase, letter-spacing 2px, bottom right: "SOURCE: ..."

Layout:
- Asymmetric two-column poster: title, subtitle and legend stacked in the left third; the plot fills the right two thirds and starts lower than the title (about y 220).
- Geometry as composition, never touching data or labels: a red disc of radius 136px centered just past the top right corner (about 900, 36) so it is cropped by the edges; a black quarter circle of radius 180px anchored in the bottom left corner with a yellow quarter circle of radius 95px inside it; a 56px blue square overlapping the black arc's edge; one 6px black diagonal line rising from the bottom edge toward the plot at about 58 degrees.
- Legend: 18px flat squares in each primary with the label to the right, stacked 30px apart in the left column.

Axes and grid:
- For horizontal bars, numeric ticks run along the top of the plot. Faint 1px vertical gridlines in #111111 at 18% opacity. The zero line is a solid 3px #111111 rule.
- For vertical bars or lines, mirror this: 3px black baseline, faint 1px horizontal gridlines, tick labels left.

Marks:
- Bar chart: flat rectangular blocks in the primaries, square corners, no gaps between stacked segments, 30px thick in a 44px band. Categories labeled uppercase outside the bar; the total in bold at the bar end, 10px past it.
- Line chart: 5px lines with square caps and miter joins in the primaries, with markers as solid squares (10px) for the first series, circles (10px) for the second and triangles for the third, echoing the circle, square and triangle. Area fills, if any, are flat solid primaries at full strength stacked in order.

Avoid: gradients, rounded corners, drop shadows, pastel tints, serif or script type, centered symmetrical layouts, and decorative shapes overlapping any label or mark.

When you're done, render the chart and check that no shape collides with text, the red disc is cropped by the canvas edges, the yellow still reads as a distinct series against the off-white, and every total is legible.
