Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Batch Trace" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a cold chain traceability log for one product lot, as a quality team would print it for a recall file. Clinical, exact and calm: custody stages read as labeled bands, the safe range is always visible, and the single problem is circled in red.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FAFAF7 (clean off-white).
- Primary data ink: #1F3A5F (navy) for the trace, stage labels, hand-off markers and the batch ID chip.
- Safe range: #2F7D6D (teal), as a 10% opacity fill with 1.2px dashed edges (6 on, 4 off) and its label.
- Excursion: #C8372D (red), used only for the excursion circle, its leader and its timestamp.
- Alternate stage bands: #ECEDEF. Headline ink #1B2230, secondary text #6B7280, hairlines #D5D8DD.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Manrope for words: eyebrow 12px 700 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in teal; title 23px 800 with -0.3px letter-spacing in #1B2230, stating the finding; subtitle 15px 500 #6B7280 with measure, unit and period; stage names 11px 800 uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing in navy; notes 11 to 12.5px 600.
- JetBrains Mono for IDs, timestamps and numbers: batch chip 12px 700 navy; stage site IDs 10.5px 500 gray; axis ticks 10.5 to 11px gray; excursion timestamp 12px 700 red.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow, title and subtitle top left; a batch ID chip top right (1.2px navy outline, 3px radius, mono text centered).
- The plot spans x 76 to 900 and y 196 to 500. Custody stages are vertical bands that extend 46px above the plot top; every other band is filled #ECEDEF, and 1px #D5D8DD rules separate stages. Each band carries a numbered stage name ("01 FARM") 26px above the plot top and its site ID in mono beneath it, both left-aligned 10px inside the band.
- Footer: 1px rule at y 542, a small key (navy line swatch "Sensor reading", square "Custody hand-off scan") on the left and "Source: ..." on the right, 12px.

Axes and grid:
- Y axis values in mono with a degree sign, no axis line; faint dotted gridlines (0.8px #D5D8DD, 1 on 3 off) except where the safe band edges already draw a line.
- 1px #1B2230 baseline with 5px ticks; time labels in mono ("12 JUN 06:00"), first left-aligned and last right-aligned.

Marks:
- Line chart: a stepped line (horizontal then vertical, each reading holds until the next), 2.4px navy with mitered corners, over a 6px page-colored halo so it cuts cleanly through band edges. At each custody hand-off a 7px square with a page fill and 1.6px navy stroke sits on the trace.
- Bar chart: one navy bar per reading or per stage (about 60% of its slot, square corners) over the same stage bands and dashed safe-range band; bars that break the range get a red outline circle and timestamp exactly like the line version.
- Excursion: a 2px red ellipse around the out-of-range stretch, a thin red leader to a label block: timestamp in mono red, then the peak and duration in Manrope 12.5px 600 dark, then a one-line cause in 12px gray.

Labels and annotation:
- Label the safe band inside its top edge on the right ("SAFE RANGE 0–4 °C", 10.5px 800 teal) where the trace does not cross it. Short gray notes ("field heat", "pre-cool done") can sit next to the trace.

Avoid: smoothing the trace, gradients, drop shadows, more than one red element, legends that duplicate direct labels, and bold colors on the stage bands.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the stepped trace never touches the stage labels, the safe range label is clear of the line, the excursion circle encloses every out-of-range step and nothing else, and the duration and peak in the note match the data.
