Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Basin Rainfall" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a catchment operations briefing slide. Deep slate, cool tones, rounded geometric type; a clear stacked composition with one running total kept in its own slim strip.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #151C24 (deep slate). Text #EEF2F6, secondary #8A97A6, gridlines #232D39, baseline #44505E.
- Series, bottom of the stack to top: #1C9E8F (teal), #86D0F7 (sky), #6F68D6 (periwinkle), #CBD3DD (pale gray).
- Running total line and dots: #FFFFFF.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Maven Pro throughout. Title 700 26px #EEF2F6 stating the finding. Subtitle 400 14.5px muted with measure, unit and period.
- Legend labels 500 13px text. Panel labels 600 10.5px uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing, muted. Tick labels 12.5px muted; category labels 500 13px muted, the highlighted one 700 in text color. The highlight total 700 18px text; its note 12.5px muted.

Layout:
- 56px left margin, title at 58, subtitle at 86, a one-row legend of 12px rounded (2px) squares at y 112.
- A slim strip panel (about 52px tall, y 162 to 214) above the main chart holds the cumulative line with its own 0 and max ticks. It is a separate panel, never a second axis on the bar plot.
- Main plot from x 96 to 900, y 262 to 504.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #232D39 gridlines at round values, no y axis line, a 1.2px #44505E baseline, month name once under the first category.

Marks:
- Bar chart: stacked square-cornered bars 62% of the band; segments separated by a 1.5px gap of page color. Print the tallest bar's total 12px above it and a two-line muted note to its right.
- Line chart: one 2.5px smooth line per series in the same colors, with the tallest point labeled; the cumulative strip stays above.
- Running total strip: a 1.6px white polyline with 2px dots at each period and a 4px dot at the end, its final value in 700 13px centered below the last dot.

Avoid: a right-hand secondary axis, bright saturated hues, borders around bars, gradients, a legend box.

When you're done, render the chart and check that segments stack in legend order, the highlighted total and the running total are computed from the data, tiny segments do not produce stray slivers, and the strip labels do not touch the line.
