Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Banquet Covers" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an events office report styled like a banquet menu card. Warm charcoal, copper and cream, engraved small caps, centered and symmetrical.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #22201D (warm charcoal).
- Actual / primary series: #C47A45 (copper), solid. Forecast / comparison series: #F1E6D2 (cream) as a 1.2px outline only.
- Primary text: #F1E6D2. Secondary text: #A89C8A. Gridlines: #3A3631 (baseline in #A89C8A). Positive variance text: #E3B27F; negative variance in #A89C8A.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Cormorant SC 600 for the eyebrow (17px, 3px letter-spacing, secondary) and the title (38px, cream, centered, stating the finding).
- Mulish for everything else: subtitle 14px 400 secondary, centered; legend 13px 600 cream; value labels 12.5px 700 cream; variance 13px 600 italic; category labels 13px 600 cream; forecast sublabels 11.5px italic secondary; source 11.5px.

Layout:
- Everything above the plot is centered: eyebrow at y 52, title at y 98, subtitle at y 128.
- A menu-card divider at y 152: two pairs of copper rules (1px and 0.6px, 4px apart) from x 200 to 468 and 492 to 760, with a 12px copper diamond centered between them.
- A centered legend under the divider (solid copper square "Actual covers", cream outlined square "Forecast").
- Plot from x 104 to 904 and y 214 to 500. A 1px #3A3631 footer rule at y 562 with the source left and a variance note right in italic.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #3A3631 gridlines at round steps with 12px labels, a #A89C8A baseline. No vertical lines.

Marks:
- Bar chart: grouped pairs where the actual bar (46px, solid copper, square corners) stands in front and the forecast bar (same width, cream 1.2px outline, no fill) sits just behind it, offset 18px to the right, so only its outline edge and top show. Above each pair: the actual value in bold, and above that the variance in italic ("+11.4%"). Category label below, with "fcst 420" in italic beneath.
- Line chart: actual as a 2.5px copper line with 5px solid copper dots, forecast as a 1.2px cream line with hollow cream dots; variance in small italic above each actual point.

Avoid: cool colors, bright white, rounded corners, heavy gridlines, gradients and left-aligned titles.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each forecast outline peeks out behind its actual bar, every variance percentage equals actual / forecast - 1, the title total matches the data, and the divider is centered.
