Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Bakery Board" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the chalk-free, printed daily board of a neighborhood bakery. Warm, friendly and tidy: flour-cream paper, cocoa ink, one crust-amber accent, and a menu header that feels set by a careful sign painter.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F5EDE0 (flour cream) for the whole canvas.
- Ink: #5A3A28 (cocoa brown) for the title, main data line, baseline, ticks, category labels and value labels.
- Accent: #C88A3E (crust amber) for the eyebrow, the average/reference line and its label, the peak marker and the pill tag. Text on the pill is #F5EDE0.
- Fill: #F1DCAE (butter) for the area under the line or for bar bodies.
- Secondary text: #8A6E5A. Dotted gridlines: #E4D6BF.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Young Serif (400) for the title (36px, centered, cocoa, sentence case, stating the finding), data value labels (16px cocoa), the pill's main words (17px) and the footer sign-off (13px, #8A6E5A).
- Figtree for everything small: eyebrow 12.5px 600 uppercase, 3px letter-spacing, amber, centered; subtitle 16px 400 #8A6E5A centered with measure, unit, period and total; axis labels 14px (y in #8A6E5A, x 500 weight in cocoa); reference-line label 13px 600 amber; source 12.5px #8A6E5A.

Layout:
- A menu-style header, all centered: eyebrow at y 52 ("SHOP NAME · BOARD NAME"), title at y 98, then a double rule across the full width between x 56 and 904 (a 2px cocoa rule, then a 0.75px cocoa rule 5.5px below it), then the subtitle 27px under the rules.
- Plot area from x 96 to 876, top about y 214, baseline y 500. Y labels right-aligned 14px left of the plot.
- Footer: a 0.75px cocoa rule at y 552, "Source: illustrative data" at the left and a short Young Serif sign-off ("Fresh from the oven daily") at the right, both at y 576.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only, 1px #E4D6BF dotted (dasharray 1 4, round caps), no line at zero. Y labels every 20 units.
- A 1.5px cocoa baseline with 6px cocoa ticks below it at every category; label every other tick if they crowd. Use friendly labels ("6 AM", "Noon", "2 PM").

Marks:
- Line chart: a stepped line (flat tread per period, vertical riser between periods), 3px cocoa, round joins, with a solid #F1DCAE butter area beneath it down to the baseline. Square markers (12 x 12, 2px #F5EDE0 outline) centered on the first tread, the peak tread and the last tread: cocoa for first and last, amber for the peak. Label first and last below their tread ("Open 18", "Close 28") and one comparison point above its tread ("Lunch 46") in Young Serif 16px cocoa.
- Bar chart: square-topped bars in #F1DCAE butter with a 2px cocoa top edge (the "tread"), about 70% of the band, with the peak bar filled #C88A3E. Young Serif value labels 10px above the notable bars only (first, peak, last).
- Reference line: a 1.5px amber dashed line (7 on, 5 off) across the plot for the average, labeled in Figtree 13px 600 amber just below the line in a spot where no mark crosses the label ("Weekly avg. 31/hr").

Labels and annotation:
- Signature pill tag: a 204 x 34 px rounded rectangle (rx 17) in #C88A3E floating about 30px above the peak, with a small downward triangle (14px wide, 9px tall) pointing at the peak marker. Inside: the moment in Young Serif 17px #F5EDE0 at the left ("7 AM rush") and the value in Figtree 14px 600 #F5EDE0 right-aligned ("64 loaves").

Avoid: gradients, shadows, textures, rounded bar corners, a legend, more than one accent color, smooth curves (keep the steps), and chalkboard effects.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the header is centered with the double rule directly under the title, the pill's triangle points exactly at the peak marker, no label crosses a riser or the dashed line, and the title's claim is true for the data.
