Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Audit Findings" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a confidential page in a board's audit committee pack. Dark oxblood leather, cream type, restrained serif authority and severity colors that read at a glance.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1F0D10 (oxblood). Primary text: #EFE6D2 (cream). Secondary text: #B3A594. Gridlines: #3A2226.
- Confidential ribbon across the top: #6B1D26 with cream text and a 0.6px cream hairline under it at 50% opacity.
- Series by severity: high #EF4444 (scarlet), medium #F59E0B (amber), low #A8A29E (stone).
- A subtle cream wash (#EFE6D2 at 4.5% opacity) marks the most recent, still-open periods.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Spectral 600 for the title (34px, cream, stating the finding) and end-label values; Spectral italic 400 14px for annotations.
- Fira Sans Condensed for everything else: ribbon 11px 600 uppercase, 2.2px letter-spacing, "CONFIDENTIAL · AUDIT COMMITTEE ONLY" repeated three times, centered at x 160, 480 and 800, with small 8px cream diamonds (60% opacity) between repeats; eyebrow 12.5px 500 uppercase with 1.8px spacing in #B3A594; subtitle 16px; x labels 14px 600 cream with a 12px secondary period line below; y labels 13.5px; end labels 15px 600; source 12.5px.

Layout:
- A 26px ribbon at the very top. 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 66, title at y 108, subtitle at y 136.
- A marker key (filled vs hollow) at y 162 on the right half.
- Plot from x 96 to 790 and y 196 to 482, leaving about 110px on the right for end labels.
- Footer rule (#3A2226) at y 552, source left, "Board pack | Item 7" right.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #3A2226 horizontal gridlines extending 24px past the last point, a #B3A594 zero line, no vertical axis line.
- The open-period zone: a cream wash rectangle from midway between the last closed and first open period to the right edge, a 0.8px cream dashed (3 on 3 off, 50%) boundary, and a small "OPEN CYCLES" caption (11px 600, 1.6px spacing) inside its top-left.

Marks:
- Line chart: straight segments, high 3px and the others 2.2px, round joins. Each series has its own marker shape as a second encoding: high circles (r 5.5), medium diamonds (6.8px half-diagonal), low squares (9.6px). Closed periods use filled markers; open periods use hollow markers (background fill, 2px series-color stroke). End labels right of the plot in the series color: severity name plus the last value in Spectral ("High 2").
- Bar chart: grouped vertical bars per period in the three severity colors, square corners, 2px oxblood gaps between bars; bars for open periods drawn as 2px outlines with the background inside instead of solid fills; the same cream wash marks the open zone.

Labels and annotation:
- One italic Spectral note in the high-severity color at the peak ("Peak of 11"), placed just below the point.

Avoid: glows, gradients, drop shadows, rounded corners, a legend box (label ends directly), and bright white text (use the cream).

When you're done, render the chart and check that filled and hollow markers are distinguishable at small size, marker shapes differ by series, end labels do not overlap each other, and the ribbon repeats sit evenly inside the canvas.
