Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Auction Estimate" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the results page of an evening sale catalogue at a jewelry auction. Near-black satin, a soft vignette, a Didone serif for lot titles, small tracked capitals, hairline rules between lots and one precious champagne-gold accent.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0C0B0D (near-black satin) with a radial vignette that lifts the center to #211E22 (through #141215 at 60%), plus a faint diagonal satin sheen (white at 3.5% opacity in a narrow band).
- Smoky taupe: #6D6259 for the range bars (vertical gradient from #7D7168 to #6D6259).
- Champagne gold: #E3C98F for the eyebrow, the hammer ticks and figures, the Sold tags and the header rule.
- Ivory: #EDE6DA for the title and lot descriptions. Muted: #9A9087 for lot numbers, captions, axis labels, passed lots and the source. Row hairlines: #2A2628.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Bodoni Moda 500 for the title: 30px, ivory, left-aligned, stating the finding. Bodoni Moda 400 15px for row labels; italic 13px for "Bought in" notes and the source.
- Tenor Sans for the rest: eyebrow 11px uppercase with 3px letter-spacing in gold; subtitle 13px muted with measure, unit and a total; column headers 10px uppercase with 2.2px letter-spacing; row numbers in faux small caps ("L" at 12px, "OT" at 9.5px, 1.5px letter-spacing); figures 12.5px gold; tags 9.5px uppercase with 2px letter-spacing; axis labels 11.5px.

Layout:
- 48px side margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title at y 92, subtitle at y 118.
- A column header row at y 150: "LOT", "DESCRIPTION", the legend (a small taupe bar "PRESALE ESTIMATE" and a gold tick "HAMMER PRICE") above the bar column, and "RESULT" right-aligned. A 0.8px gold rule (55% opacity) under it.
- One 30px row per item: number at x 48, label at x 106, bars from about x 382 to 816, the result tag right-aligned to x 912. A 0.8px #2A2628 hairline under each row.
- Axis labels ("$0", "$100k" ...) under the last row; source bottom left and a small caveat bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- No y-axis. Very faint vertical guides (white at 5% opacity) at each axis value, running through all rows.

Marks:
- Bar chart (range bars): a floating 10px-tall taupe bar (1.5px radius) spans each item's low to high estimate. The actual value is a slim 2px vertical gold tick 20px tall; when it lands beyond the bar, join them with a 0.8px dotted gold line (1 on, 3 off). The figure sits 7px right of whichever is further right, the tick or the bar's end, so it never sits on the bar. Items with no result keep a dimmed bar (55% opacity), a muted label, an italic "Bought in" note and a muted "PASSED" tag; sold items get a 50 x 18 px outlined gold "SOLD" tag (0.8px stroke at 60%).
- Line chart: the same catalogue page; draw the range as a soft taupe band (the estimate) with the actual values as a 2px champagne line with small gold ticks at each point, figures in gold Tenor Sans, and hairline row rules replaced by faint horizontal guides.

Avoid: bright colors, pure white, heavy borders, filled tag backgrounds, rounded pill shapes, a boxed legend and anything louder than the gold.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every gold figure is clear of the taupe bars, dotted connectors only appear where the result exceeds the high estimate, the count in the title matches the data, and the tags align in one column.
