Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Assay Sheet" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a laboratory assay certificate. Pale mineral gray paper, crisp black element tiles like periodic-table cells, three metal-toned series and figures in a monospaced face. Clinical, precise and quietly handsome.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #EEF0F0. Tiles: #FFFFFF with a 1.4px #23292E border.
- Ink: #23292E. Secondary text: #5F686E. Gridlines and separators: #D3D8DA.
- Series: #B8733E (copper), #98A4AC (zinc gray), #4A5F7E (lead blue), in that order.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Chivo for headings and words: title 700 28px stating the finding; subtitle 400 15px #5F686E with measure and unit; tile symbols 900 32px; tile names 400 11px; legend note 400 13px; source 12px.
- Chivo Mono for all figures and codes: eyebrow 500 11px uppercase with 1px letter-spacing; atomic number 500 12px; atomic mass 400 9px; sample ids 500 13px; value column 14px (600 #23292E when the value is above threshold, 400 #5F686E when below); axis numbers 12px; threshold labels 500 11px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow at y 44, title, subtitle, then a legend row of 14px squares with sample ids and a dashed "Anomaly threshold" key.
- Groups stacked vertically, 116px apart, separated by 1px #D3D8DA full-width rules. Each group starts with an 84 x 84 element tile at the left margin: atomic number top-left, symbol centered, name and atomic mass below it inside the tile.
- Plot from x 196 to 800; a right-aligned mono value column at the right margin under a "PPM" header with a 1px rule; dotted 1px #D3D8DA leaders (1 on, 3 off) run from each bar end to the column.

Axes and grid:
- Linear value axis from zero, labels in mono at the bottom every 1,000 with thousands separators. Vertical 1px #D3D8DA gridlines; the zero line 1.2px #23292E.

Marks:
- Bar chart: grouped horizontal bars, 22px tall with 5px gaps, square corners, flat fills in the series order. A dashed threshold (1.4px #23292E, 4 on 3 off) crosses each group vertically at that group's own threshold, labeled "500 ppm" in mono just above its top.
- Line chart: one 2px line per series in the series colors with 6px square markers (white fill, 1.5px colored stroke), end labels in mono, and the threshold as a horizontal dashed 1.4px #23292E line labeled at the right; element or category tiles become small 44px tiles along the x axis.

Avoid: log-scale bars, rounded corners, gradients, shadows, colored text for values, and naming metals by color alone (always print sample ids).

When you're done, render the chart and check that bars start at zero, the value column is right-aligned on the digits, each threshold sits at its correct value, and the mono figures use thousands separators.
