Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Annual Review" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a 1980s annual report spread. Matte off-white paper, a solid deep burgundy band down the left third with a vertical Bodoni title, a fine gold rule and a sober, tabular right-hand page.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F6F3EC. Left band: #6E1F2F filling x 0 to 300 at full height.
- Main series: #6E1F2F. Comparison series: warm gray #A39A8E.
- Gold #B08A3E for the fine vertical rule at x 330 and a short 28 x 1.5 px rule in the band.
- Ink #2B2426 for the baseline and table text; muted #6F6760 for secondary text; hairlines #DDD6CA. Light text in the band: #FFFFFF and #E9D9C6.

Typography (Google Fonts), lining figures everywhere (font-variant-numeric: lining-nums, plus tabular-nums in the table):
- Bodoni Moda for the vertical title (40px; first line 600 roman, second line 400 italic, white), the large year in the band (500, 68px, white) and value labels (600, 20px for the latest, 15px for the first).
- Libre Franklin for everything else, with small-cap style labels set as uppercase with letter-spacing: company name 11px 600 with 2.6px spacing; "ANNUAL REVIEW" 12px 600 with 3px spacing; chart eyebrow 12px 600 burgundy with 2px spacing stating measure, unit and period; descriptor 14px muted; axis and year labels 11 to 13px muted; table 13px.

Layout:
- Band: company name at top left (x 40), the gold short rule, the big year, "ANNUAL REVIEW", and a two-line note at the bottom. The title runs vertically (rotated -90 degrees, reading upward) in two lines at x 200 and 270, both starting at y 556.
- Right page from x 364 to 912: eyebrow and descriptor at the top, the plot from y 116 to 330, then a "FIVE-YEAR SUMMARY" table from y 376 with a 1px ink rule above and below and 0.8px hairlines between rows. Year columns right-aligned 70px apart; the latest column bold burgundy.
- Footer at y 562: source left, folio "ANNUAL REVIEW 1988 | 7" right in 10px 600 caps.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #DDD6CA gridlines with dollar labels sitting just above each line at the left edge. A 1px ink baseline with 5px ticks; year labels 22px below.

Marks:
- Line chart: the main series as a 3px burgundy straight-segment line with 3.5px burgundy dots ringed 1.5px in page color (latest dot 5.5px); the comparison as a 1.5px warm-gray line with hollow 2.5px dots. Label both lines at their right ends with the value in Bodoni and the series name in Libre Franklin 11px below.
- Bar chart: slim square-cornered burgundy bars (about 40% of the band) with the comparison as thinner warm-gray bars beside them, values in Bodoni above. Bars start at zero.

Avoid: more than one strong color, gradients, shadows, oldstyle figures, heavy gridlines and a boxed legend.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the vertical title reads bottom to top without clipping, the table's figures match the data and line up on their right edges, and the gold rule clears the band.
