Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Annual Appeal" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the progress page of a nonprofit's year-end fundraising report. Warm, heartfelt and trustworthy: a cream page, one brick red story line, last year quietly in sandstone, a gentle sky blue goal, and a few handwritten-feeling margin notes. Professional, never cute.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FBF6EE (cream) for the whole canvas.
- Primary series and the accent for key numbers: #B5432F (brick red). Area under the primary series: #F2DCD2 (pale brick) at 85% opacity.
- Comparison series (last year or earlier periods): #C4A77D (sandstone).
- Goal or target line: #5B93C2 (sky blue).
- Headline ink: #3A2A22. Secondary text: #7A6A5E. Gridlines and rules: #E7DCCB. Baseline and tick marks: #CDBFAA.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Lora for the title (600, 32px, #3A2A22, sentence case, stating the finding), end-label values (700, 18px), the progress figure (700, 18px brick) and margin notes (italic 400, 15px; first line #3A2A22, second line brick). The footer tagline is Lora italic 13px #7A6A5E.
- Nunito Sans for everything else: eyebrow 12px 800 uppercase with 2.2px letter-spacing in brick; subtitle 15px #7A6A5E stating measure, unit, period and the comparison; axis labels 13px (#7A6A5E, 600 for x labels); series names 14px 800; goal label 13px 800 sky blue; small caps-style labels 10.5px 800 with 1.6px letter-spacing; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 58, title baseline at y 98, subtitle at y 128.
- A thermometer progress pill in the top-right corner (x 700 to 904): a "PROGRESS TO GOAL" label above; a white tube 18px tall with 9px radius and a 1.5px #E7DCCB outline; a brick fill 10px tall (5px radius) inset inside it; the tube spans 0 to 110% of goal with a 2px sky blue tick at 100%; a brick bulb circle (r 15, 3px white stroke) on the left end with a white "$"; under the tube the amount raised (Nunito Sans 12.5px 700) on the left and "101% of goal" (Lora 700 18px brick) right-aligned.
- Plot area from x 76 to 780, baseline at y 510. The right margin (x 794+) holds direct end labels.
- Footer: a 1px #E7DCCB rule at y 556, source at the left, a Lora italic tagline at the right.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only, 1px #E7DCCB, at round values; the baseline 1.2px #CDBFAA. Y labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot with currency formatting ($100K).
- X ticks 6px long below the baseline at month starts, labels 24px below; the first label left-aligned and the last right-aligned so nothing overhangs.
- No axis lines other than the baseline.

Marks:
- Line chart: the primary series is a cumulative step line (step-after: horizontal then vertical) in 3.5px brick with round joins, filled beneath with the pale brick area. The comparison series is the same step shape in 2.5px sandstone with no fill. The goal is a 2px sky blue dashed line (7 on, 5 off) across the full plot, labeled at its left end above the line ("Goal $500K"). End dots: brick r 5.5 and sandstone r 4.5, each with a cream stroke.
- Bar chart: slim bars (about 55% of the band) in brick with 3px top radius for the current period and sandstone for earlier periods, grouped side by side; the goal is the same sky blue dashed line across the bars; value labels in Lora 700 above each bar.

Labels and annotation:
- Direct end labels instead of a legend: the series name (Nunito Sans 14px 800) and its final value beneath (Lora 700 18px), both in the series color, 14px right of the last point.
- Margin notes beside each campaign spike: two lines of Lora italic 15px, right-aligned, placed in open space to the upper left of the jump, joined to the jump by a curved 1px #7A6A5E dotted leader (2 on, 3 off).

Avoid: gradients, drop shadows, heavy borders, clip art, emoji, more than one warm accent, smoothed curves (steps show gifts landing), and a boxed legend.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the progress percentage and year-over-year change match the data, the margin notes and their leaders sit in empty space without touching the lines, the goal label does not collide with the end labels, and the pill text fits inside the top-right corner.
