Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Alloy Mix" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a metallurgist's specification sheet printed on brushed steel. Technical but refined: metal-colored segments with a polished bevel, crisp numbers and a classical serif headline.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #EDEDEB brushed steel, as a diagonal gradient from #F6F6F4 through #EDEDEB to #E0E0DD, with about 170 fine horizontal streaks (0.6px, 120 to 640px long, alternating #FFFFFF and #B9B9B5 at 12 to 37% opacity) for a brushed grain.
- Series in this order: #D1A93B (fine gold), #C9CCD0 (silver), #B8664F (copper rose), #9DBBD3 (zinc blue). A fifth or sixth series: #7E8A6A (nickel olive), #5B6470 (dark steel).
- Text: #26262A ink, #6B6D70 secondary. Bar outline #8E9094.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Libre Bodoni 600 32px for the title in ink, stating the finding.
- Barlow for everything else: subtitle 16px #6B6D70; legend 500 13px; row names 600 16px ink; row notes 500 11px uppercase with 1.5px letter-spacing; in-bar percentages 600 14px (ink on gold, silver and zinc, white on copper); minor-value captions 500 12px; scale labels and source 11 to 12px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Title at y 86, subtitle at y 116, a legend row at y 140 with 22 x 12 beveled swatches (2px radius).
- Row labels in a left column (x 56); bars from x 236 to 904, 30px tall, 58px row pitch. Percent scale ticks (0, 25, 50, 75, 100%) sit just above the first bar. Footer rule, source at the left, "Minor metals listed beneath each bar" at the right.

Axes and grid:
- No gridlines: the bars fill the full 100% width. Only small 5px ticks with 11px labels above the first row.

Marks:
- Bar chart (100% stacked): square-cornered segments separated by 1.2px #F6F6F4 gaps. Over each whole bar lay a gloss gradient (white 38% at the top, white 5% at 45%, black 10% at the bottom), a 1.2px white line along the top edge at 95% opacity, a 1px #55575B line along the bottom edge at 55% opacity, and a 0.6px #8E9094 outline: a polished bevel. Print the percentage centered inside every segment at least 58px wide; list the narrower segments in a caption right-aligned 15px under the bar ("Ag 5.0% · Cu 2.8% · Zn 0.5%").
- Line chart: 3px lines in the same metal colors, each drawn over a 5px #8E9094 line at 35% opacity so pale metals read on the steel page, with 5px dots given the same white top highlight, and direct labels at the line ends in Barlow 600 13px.

Avoid: rounded bars, drop shadows, bright non-metal colors, a gridded background and percentages crammed into slivers.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each row sums to 100, every narrow segment appears in its caption, the bevel lines are visible on every bar, and silver and zinc are still distinct from the page.
