Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Allowance Price" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a market report page from an emissions trading registry. Quiet, precise and institutional: one dark spruce price line living inside a pale green regulatory corridor, with auctions and policy events annotated like a regulator would.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F0F4F0 (pale gray-green) for the whole canvas.
- Main series: #1E4D3B (dark spruce). Also the eyebrow, the header rule and the right-hand corridor labels.
- Corridor band: #D5E6D6 at 85% opacity, edged by 1.3px dashed lines in #7FA88C (5 on, 4 off).
- Secondary markers (auction results): #B5542F (brick) outlines on page-colored fill.
- Title ink #1F2A24; secondary text #5F6F66; gridlines and footer rule #D3DDD5.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Spectral 600 for the title, 30px, #1F2A24, sentence case, stating the finding with numbers.
- Red Hat Text for everything else: eyebrow 11.5px 700 uppercase with 2.2px letter-spacing in spruce; subtitle 14.5px #5F6F66 with measure, unit and period; legend 12.5px 500; axis labels 12.5px; year labels 13px 600 in ink; annotation heading 12px 700 with a 12px regular second line; end value 14px 700 spruce; footer 11.5px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 48 on the left, a short publication label right-aligned on the same line, then a full-width 1.4px spruce rule.
- Title at about y 104, subtitle under it, a one-line legend at about y 160 (short line swatch, hollow diamond, dashed-edge corridor swatch).
- Plot area from x 88 to x 808; the right-hand 96px column holds the corridor labels ("Ceiling" / "Floor" in 12px 700 spruce with the value in 12px muted below) and the latest value.
- Footer: 1px #D3DDD5 rule at y 548, then "Source: ..." left and a small method note right, both 11.5px muted.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only, 0.8px #D3DDD5. Dollar labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot.
- A 1px ink baseline with 6px ticks at each year boundary and the year label centered in its span.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 2px #1E4D3B polyline with round joins and a 5px page-colored halo underneath so it cuts through the band and dashed lines cleanly. Dot the first point (r 3.5) and the last point (r 4 with a 1.5px page ring); label the first value above the start and the last value in the right column with "last week" under it. Periodic events (auctions) are 11px-tall hollow diamonds with a 1.6px #B5542F stroke and page fill, drawn on top of the line. Regulatory bounds that change by period are stepped, dashed lines with the corridor filled between them.
- Bar chart: square-cornered #1E4D3B bars about 55% of the band on the same #F0F4F0 page, drawn over the green corridor band when there is a floor or target range; mark per-bar reference values (auction results) with the same hollow brick diamonds centered on the bar top area; label the latest bar's value in 14px 700 spruce.

Labels and annotation:
- A policy event gets a 1px dotted (2 on, 3 off) ink vertical from the top of the plot to the baseline, a 2.5px ink dot at the top, and a two-line note to its right: bold date and event, then a regular explanatory line.
- Label the corridor at the right edge instead of with axis text.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, rounded corners, smoothing the weekly line, a heavy frame, more than one accent color besides spruce and brick, and a dual axis.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the title's averages match the data, the price line never leaves the corridor, the diamonds sit on top of the line, the policy note does not touch the ceiling line, and the right-hand labels do not collide.
