Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Aerodrome" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a 1930s municipal airfield bulletin. Calm, orderly and airy: pale aqua-green paper, a cream band with rounded ends holding the chart, triple pinstripes top and bottom, and a small control tower emblem beside the title.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #DDEAE4 (pale aqua-green). Chart band: #F5EFDF (cream).
- Primary ink, the data line and rivet markers: #0F5257 (deep teal).
- Pinstripes, year dividers and dotted gridlines: #6E9C95. Rivet glint: #9CC6BF. Secondary text: #4B6E69.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Federo 400 for the title (38px, deep teal, sentence case, stating the finding) and the large year labels under the band (20px, 2px letter-spacing).
- Questrial 400 for everything else: subtitle 16px #4B6E69; axis labels 14px; per-period totals 14px deep teal with 0.4px letter-spacing; callout 14px deep teal; source 12px; folio 11px uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- Triple pinstripes run the full canvas width at the top (y 18, 23, 28) and bottom (y 572, 577, 582): the middle line 1.4px deep teal, the outer two 0.9px #6E9C95.
- Control tower glyph at x 56, y 58, about 36px wide and 60px tall, solid deep teal: a mast with a beacon dot, a domed roof, a cab with four page-colored window slots, a tapering shaft with three short horizontal slots, and a flat footing.
- Title at x 106, baseline y 94; subtitle at x 107, y 124.
- Cream band from x 40 to 920, y 160 to 500, corner radius 44px. The plot sits inside it from x 122 to 884.
- Source left and folio ("BULLETIN No. 12 · FIELD OPERATIONS") right at y 556.

Axes and grid:
- Dotted gridlines (0.8px #6E9C95 at 55% opacity, 1 on 4 off) with 14px Questrial labels right-aligned 22px left of the plot. A 1.2px deep teal baseline at zero.
- For time series, thin 0.9px #6E9C95 vertical dividers between years (or other periods), each period's total written centered near the top of the band ("1,619 flights"), and the period name in Federo 20px centered below the band.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 2.2px deep teal line with straight segments and round joins. Every data point is a rivet: r 4 deep teal disc with a 1.4px cream (#F5EFDF) outline and a r 1.2 #9CC6BF glint offset 1.1px up and left. The peak gets an extra r 8.5 1.4px ring and a thin leader to a short callout set on a cream knockout.
- Bar chart: deep teal bars (about 55% of the band) with fully rounded tops (radius half the bar width) and square bases, a row of three r 1.6 #9CC6BF rivet dots across each bar 8px below its top, value labels in Questrial 14px deep teal above, all on the cream band with the same dotted grid.

Avoid: gradients, shadows, more than one ink color for data, heavy gridlines, square-cornered panels and busy legends.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the rivets read as distinct studs rather than a thick line, the period totals add up from the data, the band's rounded ends do not clip any mark or label, and the pinstripes span the full width.
