Understand the activities and dynamics of design-review meetings

Establish what happens during design-review meetings and how existing tools support or shape those activities, in order to address the limited understanding of design reviews.

Background

The paper identifies design reviews as an important but insufficiently studied activity in engineering and product development. Although design reviews involve interactions among designers and reviewers and are supported by tools such as text editors, recordings, whiteboards, and visual dashboards, the processes occurring during the meetings remain poorly characterized. A better understanding could inform the design of human-computer interactions and tools for model-based design reviews.

Although design reviews are crucial in any design process, the topic is still under-researched [27]. We do not clearly understand what happens during meetings, and the existing tools supporting them (e.g., text editors, voice recordings, whiteboards, visual dashboards) have not disrupted them significantly.
