Energy efficiency of TALU relative to RISC-V²

Determine the energy per element of the TALU processor and compare its energy efficiency with that of the RISC-V² vector processor under like-for-like implementation and operating conditions.

Background

The paper compares TALU with RISC-V² in area and clock frequency, reporting that TALU occupies half the area. However, the comparison is not like-for-like: RISC-V² reports frequency from synthesis at a worst-case corner and a lower supply voltage, whereas TALU uses post-route results at a typical corner and a power estimate based on 0.1 activity. The paper therefore notes that TALU has higher power, leaving its energy consumption per processed element unresolved.

TALU's power is higher, and energy per element is the main open question.
