Represent anthropogenic-heat release pathways
Develop physically based data and parameterizations that explicitly represent the release pathways of anthropogenic heat, including the vertical distribution and physical characteristics of heat emitted by vehicles, HVAC systems, industrial stacks, and underground infrastructure, so that urban climate models can distinguish pathways with different climatic effects.

However, there is no generally accepted approach for constructing this counterfactual estimate at present, and some implementations may raise energy-conservation concerns.
Although the sign of source feedback appears to be relatively well established in many conventional heating and cooling systems, quantitative estimates remain limited, leaving its dependence on climate, building characteristics, energy systems, technology, and human behavior largely unknown.
