Generalization beyond static structured page layouts

Determine whether the demonstrated visual-quality improvements of the ASP-based GUI layout optimizer extend to interfaces with less visible grids, such as interfaces dominated by large imagery or scroll-driven storytelling, and to interaction-heavy interfaces.

Background

The end-user evaluation tested static, structured wireframe page layouts with clearly delineated elements. Although layouts generated with the full ASP optimization model received higher visual-quality ratings than layouts generated under simpler conditions, the authors caution that the study does not establish generalization to all interface types.

The unresolved issue is whether the observed advantage persists for interfaces whose visual organization is less grid-based or whose primary design challenges involve dynamic and interaction-heavy behavior.
